Local option appears doomed in Sumter county election
Americus Georgia June 30 The ordinary will soon call an election on local option in Sumter county. Liquor sales have risen illegally despite four years of supposed dryness and the area suffers from blind tigers. About 1 700 voters are registered and this will rise to 2 000. The third district Georgia Masons convention will meet in Americus July 23 with 300 delegates expected over three days and a Magnolia Dell barbecue planned.

Carrie Rogers of Abbeville Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Carrie Rogers, widow of William Rogers, of Abbeville, died Monday at 9 am after months of illness. She leaves five children and is survived by sisters and relatives in the county. Burial occurred yesterday at 10 am in the local cemetery. she was a member of the Methodist church.

Turned Loose Joe Horne Cleared After Commital Trial
Joe Horne colored knocked Charle Morris with a hoe on June 21 on D. W. Sumerford's plantation. Morris died on the following Wednesday. A committal trial before Judge H. J. Morgan resulted in Horne being turned loose. The state was represented by Col W F George and the defense by Col G W Busbee. The defendant claimed the act was justifiable.
