Mrs A J Shell wife of A J Shell of Marvin died suddenly around midnight at her daughter’s home in the city after visiting her grandchild who was ill. She retired in normal health, awoke gasping, and died two hours later. Survived by husband and several children. interment tomorrow at Marvin church conducted by Rev J J Ansley.
A program for a Teachers Institute to be held in Vienna Georgia on February 20 1910 lists session topics and instructors. Grammar floral nouns syntax geography fractions and more are assigned to professors and teachers including Pilcher Doney Cooper Mitchell Harvard Power. The document includes a brief humorous exchange about orange prices.
Dr T B Bradley practices limited to eye ear nose and throat and fitting of glasses. Office is in the Westbrook Building.
Georgia will issue certificates of honor to boys excelling in corn growing under state leaders Gov. Brown and commissioners Pound Hudson. Clubs spread across counties will compete for prizes including gold, merchandise, and prize trips with rules naming county as the club base and each member cultivating at least one acre.
County Coroner G M D Peavy of Harmony community died Tuesday afternoon after a two week illness with pneumonia. He was about 60 and leaves a large family. Interment was at Mt Olive church Wednesday afternoon in a large crowd. Macon Ga Feb 15 bodies of three of the wreck victims were recovered from the wreckage of two passenger trains on the Georgia Southern and Florida railway near Sandy Raw Creek Bonaire. Engineers Yates and Fuss and mail clerk Holt among the dead or injured as death toll rises to six. Partial investigations cite possible misissued orders or conductor confusion amid the disaster.
Local citizens of Lilly organized a stock company to construct buildings for a cotton oil mill and gunnery project. Capital stock of 30000 dollars is subscribed, with T P Busbee as president and A F Forehand vice president. A building committee was appointed to handle contracts and machinery. The town sits in a rich farming area with over 70 cars of seed shipped last season.
A southern Macon wreck halted schedules after a log jammed meet with Bonaire and Kathleen. Passengers were moved to Macon on two relief trains and cared for at the Lanier and Brown house. Fire from the wreckage was quickly extinguished by passengers. The line re opened by noon with traffic resumed. two conductors in the baggage car escaped death.
The Farmers Union and Dooly county school commission announce a large all day educational rally at the court house next Friday February 26. Ex Governor Hoke Smith, State School Commissioner J M Pound, and likely Farmers Union President J L Lee and State College of Agriculture President Soule are set to speak. A basket dinner is proposed and attendance is urged from both city and county residents.
Mrs Summer Adams aged 82 died Tuesday afternoon at 4 80 o clock at her daughter Mrs T P Bushee s Lilly home after declining health. She leaves six children including B T Adams D D Adams J K Godwin Vienna T R Smith and T P Busbee. The funeral was held Wednesday at 11 am in Lilly Adams cemetery with Rev Hugh Oliver officiating. A big sale by H Croutz begins next Saturday and runs thirteen days. ad continues in this issue.
