Homicide in Raines community ends in self defense verdict

The coroner's inquest in Unadilla reports Walter Hudson killed 85 year old Essey Cox after a knife clash near a stream. Cox left a wife and two children. Hudson, a hired man in his twenties, was found justifiable homicide. The case shook the Cedar Creek area.

Williams Case Reopened After Supreme Court Review

The case of Seymore Williams, convicted of murder near Coney, received a new trial in the Supreme Court last week. If the commission is applied, the case could proceed to a new sentence. Littlejohn is expected to return to the superior court next week for another sentence in the wake of the ruling.

Cawthon Granted New Trial by Supreme Court

The supreme court voids the first murder conviction of R D Cawthorn of Dodge county and orders a new trial due to improper admission of evidence linking a poison dose to Tucker. The case involved a claimed conspiracy with Tucker’s wife. she was not indicted. Judge Fish and Candler dissented.

Mrs Shipp Dies Quietly In Hawkinsville Hotel

Mrs. G. W. Shipp died at 4 o clock Sunday morning from gastritis after about four weeks illness in her Greer hotel apartments. The body was taken to Hawkinsville at 1 o clock for interment today. She was wife of Dr. George W. Shipp and a Baptist church member active in circles. She was daughter of the late Capt R. W. Anderson of Hawkinsville who died last fall.

A Pinehurst Georgia notice offers a five dollar reward for information on Willis English 20, dark complexion, scar over one eye, about 5 6 and 160 pounds. He ran away from Mr Doc Fullington's place under contract on Sunday February 14. All persons are forbidden to give him work.

Father Killed by His Own Son in Fort Valley Tragedy

In Fort Valley Georgia on a Sunday night Frank Dyes fifty eight was shot and killed by his seventeen year old son Seneca Dyes. Family members say the father struck the boy and the boy fired after a scuffle while the father pursued his wife. The shot pierced the body and the coroner opened an inquest with Sheriff M L Cooper present. Seneca Dyes was arrested about eleven thirty.

Lowndes County Man Jailed for Abandonment

Sheriff Passmore of Valdosta Lowndes county brought R. O. Whittle to jail on a charge of abandonment. Whittle posted bond on Monday and returned to work at a saw mill near Valdosta to await his court trial.

Serious Runaway Near Kerns Ends With Injured Horse

A.G. Hendley of Kerns had a serious runaway Monday afternoon while driving a mule and his father's horse to a wagon near his home. He was thrown or jumped clear as the frightened team dragged the wagon. The horse sustained severe injuries after crashing into a stump near Joe Peavy's residence, rendering the animal unfit to continue. The driver was not hurt.
