Vienna mourns as Prof R is reported dead at his Eastman home. For four years he served as superintendent of the public schools with dignity and devotion. A respected, kind educator, he died after delivering a class message from God’s word. Services followed by interment as neighbors express deep sorrow and esteem.
Judge A V Whipple, chairman, reports on the district legal advisory boards work with questionnaires to the Adjutant General in Atlanta. Major Mallet sends an acknowledgment commending Dooly’s Unit for efficient service and thanks the individual members for their patriotic, painstaking effort.
A Dooly county arose news confirms Mr Edward Peacock survived the torpedoed ship. He is the youngest son of Mrs S B Peacock and resides near the city with her son in law J R C Lane. Peacock served since October 1917 and was based at Camp Travis Texas before sailing for France.
C W Morgan, a Schlecht Motor Sales salesman, passed aviation examinations yesterday at the Memphis station and was placed on the inactive list. He will undergo an operation before training school. A Memphis resident for four years, he came from Atlanta and previously worked for Ford Sales. He is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs B J Morgan.
Col Watts Powell has been appointed Chairman of the War Savings Stamps Committee for Vienna and will launch a town wide campaign promoting Thrift and Saving Stamps. The plan includes ward sales managers and inclusive participation by all residents. A Junior War Defense Workers group, led by Misses Dora and Lillian Trippe, raised $51 in a recent business district canvass as plans to expand to rural areas proceed.
Judge Henderson administers and distributes permit cards allowing farmers to buy flour without required substitutes, clarifying that substitutes need not accompany flour purchases. Georgia officials credit Dr. Soule for rapid relief and outline how cards work across counties with signatories and participating dealers.

The local examining board reports ongoing physical tests for registrants with a long list of names examined for class one and others rejected. The process follows a government order and includes medical advisory input and planned next movements from Dooly as the roster of accepted and rejected candidates is announced.
The February Criminal division heard most pleas of guilty this week with Mary Ransom found guilty of murdering her stepfather and sentenced to 15 years. Several defendants received varying terms from six to twelve months or fines, including John Fluker and Ida George.
Meeting planned for the 22nd has been canceled due to other emergencies claiming the organizers attention. An invitation extends to join a similar event in Cordele on the same date.
The District Board placed numerous registrants in deferred classes on agricultural grounds including John T. Bush R. L. Wood A. L. Bolin D. T. Ward Cassie Vinson J H. Porter F. J. Rodgers C. L. Reed J. S. Pope W. M. McMillan E. H. McGough Coy Morgan and others. Acceptance for limited military service noted for James Bembry W. S. Dunn J. Shepherd. Classification on agricultural or industrial grounds does not affect final class if a registrant is moved to a more deferred class for dependency.
Under the direction of Mrs. A. E. Moore the local surgical dressing class in Atlanta is organized and producing satisfactory results. Eighteen enrolled Monday afternoon with uniformed members preparing standard dressings for the Red Cross from 2 to 5 pm. The class aims to train members to instruct others after completion. Members listed include Mrs. M. E. McDonald Mrs. R. B. Middleton Mrs. H. Torton Mrs. C. V. Heard Mrs. Alberta Howell Mrs. Nelson and others including Miss Minnielee Jordan and Eula Joiner.
After spending two weeks in Cordele, H R Fenn returns to his country home near the city. He says thirty years of life in Dooly beat the ordeal, plans to remain in Vienna, Dooly County, R F D. His friends cheer that he has seen the error of his ways and is back in his old parish. LT Wilder advertises roofing and sheathing supplies for layings.
