The treasury issues warrants for 1,140,000 dollars to fund pensions for Georgia veterans. Gov Brown plans to mail payments next Monday, with confederate veterans set to draw their pensions shortly after.
R H Powell supervisor of rural schools Georgia under the Abod y Fund spoke Tuesday to county teachers and citizens at the courthouse about taxation for support and management of rural schools. The brief session included questions on improvement methods and school district funding.
The Vienna city council met February 7 1911 and approved licenses for peanut vendors on sidewalks at 250 dollars and for pool rooms at 50 dollars per table. They also mandated hogs owners keep at least twenty four feet of space per hog and set a 5 dollar fine for noncompliance, with fines or removal from the city as remedies.
A charity performance titled Jarley and Her Wax Works will be presented at Heards Opera on Friday February 10 under Civic Improvement auspices. Proceeds go toward improving the city park. organizers urge a strong turnout and note local women have contributed to the fundraising effort.

Police chief Sumner says unemployed must show visible earnings plan or 60 to 80 days of street improvement work. Hoboes to be deterred. two vagrants arrested last night including a 10 year old boy with stolen lunches.
Rev J A Smith of the Orphan's Home of the South Georgia Conference Macon visited our city last week. Since 1872 the home has cared for over two thousand children with 85 percent making good. Currently 145 children, 22 babies, receive non sectarian support funded by public free will offerings coordinated by the superintendent and staff.
Cordele Georgia February 8 A symposium on municipal and home health regulations focusing on the housefly and mosquito will be held at the Cordele courthouse February 16. Dr J N McCormick from Bowling Green Kentucky will lecture and the event aims to attract full AMA council members to Cordele. Local and Woman's Club committees will assist in hosting visiting physicians from the Third district.
Cordele Georgia, February 7. Mayor Dorris, installed in January, names a commission of councilmen and prominent attorneys and businessmen to study the commission form and report to the council by May 1. The group may send members to Des Moines and Galveston to observe existing systems. A new city charter will be prepared, aiming to replace the aldermanic setup if the commission form proves effective and desirable.
In Statesboro Georgia a fatal duel occurred at Jimpe Station on the Central of Georgia line between John E Waters and John Allen. They reportedly fought while drinking with the log rolling crowd nearby. Morgan Waters witnessed the struggle and was cut on the wrist while attempting to intervene.
A barn and contents belonging to J. H. Beneaue burned overnight in Arabi. The blaze destroyed feed six mules and two horses. Loss estimated at 8 000 with little insurance. Also notes Madam Jolly Wax Works at the Opera House Friday night with popular prices.
After a confrontation with Waters, Allen left toward his home and has not been heard from since. Officers are tracing him to Jimps in search of clues. Waters, long known in Statesboro, once served as night marshal. The cause of the fight remains unknown.
