Man Wounded In Highway Shooting Between Bragg And Porter

On a public highway near the Hiram Peavy place last Friday afternoon Jim Porter was shot by Jake Bragg and remains in serious condition with a bullet through the right chest exiting behind the left shoulder. Bragg was briefly jailed, released on bond, then rearrested as details unfold. Both men, connected and married, had been drinking over a horse swap with Frank Porter. Porter is recovering and Bragg was released on bond again after medical update.

Howard Adkins Wedding Blessing Crisp County

Mise Mae Blanche Howard wed Spurgeon Adkins on Sunday December 24 at 8 pm at the Howard home in Crisp county. Rev Pool of Cordele officiated in the presence of relatives and friends. The groom is the son of J A Adkins of Crisp county and the couple will reside near Hawkinsville in Pulaski county.

Powell Leaves Bench as Pottle Succeeds in Georgia

Atlanta georgia December 22 Governor Slaton appointed J R Pottle of Blakely to the court of appeals to replace Judge Arthur Powell whose resignation becomes effective January 15 Pottle is brother of solicitor Joasph E Pottle of the Ocmulgee circuit and is about 87 years old He is regarded as one of the ablest lawyers in south Georgia The appointment runs until the next general election Powell had five years left in his term Powell's plans are not announced.

Crossland Fight Over Hog Ends With Knife Injury

A near serious incident occurred at Crossland last Friday involving Charley Heard of Vienna and A. M. Lovett. Heard and Lovett fought over a hog owned by Lovett, which Lovett claims Heard ran over with his automobile, leaving Heard with a knife injury across the left cheek during the clash.

Mrs E J Peavy Died After Illness In Sixth District

Mrs E J Peavy wife of prominent planter in the Sixth district died Thursday morning shortly after 6 after a two week illness with La grippe. Previously Miss Carlisle, she was daughter of the late J T Carlisle and a Smyrna Baptist Church member. She leaves a grieving husband eight children and relatives. Interment will be at Lane cemetery about noon today.

Tuesday evening after the Baptist church prayer service Mr and Mrs Eubanks graciously hosted the Juniors of the B Y P A with the Junior Leadership of the Sunday School assisting teachers Miss Mary Parkerson Mrs J J Morgan and Mrs J W Lytle Many games brought merriment and Mia Annia Kelley provided sweet music Refreshments followed and guests praised the excellent host and hostess
