Washington Georgia August 17 a remarkable overgrown Irish potato shown by farmer J N Tankersley. The four potatoes fused into a single specimen resemble a sheep's head from one view and a terrapin from another. He declined the offer to sell it to keep the curiosity.

Two Big Business Blocks Fire in Hawkinsville
Fire swept the Hawkinsville business district Sunday afternoon threatening two entire blocks. Firefighters saved much of the downtown as Dr E C Brown’s office and Powell-Polhill Drug Co. areas burned heavily with oils and explosives in the basement raising danger. Several adjoining firms suffered water damage with stocks and buildings insured and valued at thousands.

Aged Negro Servant Neptune Buried in Brunswick
Neptune the aged negro servant of the King family on St Simons Island was buried after a funeral attended by citizens. He served as body servant to Captain Low King in the Civil War and risked his life by crossing Confederate lines to recover his master’s body. He later served the family, returned home after the war, and stayed until his death.

Bloody Battle on a Negro Excursion in Savannah
A negro excursion from Savannah to Beaufort turned violent with twenty wounded treated by a surgeon on return. Wounds included a man with twelve stab wounds in the back and others with razor injuries. a bat pin pierced an arm. Cornerstone Laid At Perry Confederate Monument Ceremony
The cornerstone of the Confederate Monument was laid in Perry Georgia on August 17 with Masons leading ceremonies. About 8 000 attend the reunion of Confederate veterans and barbecue, featuring 68 carcasses prepared for dinner and leftovers to feed 1 090. Veterans from Bibb Dooly Macon Pulaski and Crawford counties marched from the courthouse to the armory grove where Judge Duncan and C G Gray spoke for 82 minutes. The day was hot and clear with no drunkenness observed.

Death of Florence Anthony Child of Rev and Mrs W Anthony
Florence Anthony three years old daughter of Rev and Mrs W Anthony died Monday morning after month of fever. Four physicians and friends exhausted efforts but could not save her. Interment to Wrightsville on Monday. Sympathy from many friends follows the loss.
