Vienna report details a morning fire in the Dra Bivins and Mobley offices above the Post Office building. Firemen contained the blaze after heavy internal damage, destroying stock and harming second floor ceiling and floor. Postmaster Middleton saved on the first floor and mail delivery was disrupted briefly. Loss total not stated.

Death of Gen G. G. French Reveals Civil War Honor
Mobile Alabama April 20 Gen G G French died today at Florala Alabama. He was the oldest living West Point graduate and served in the Confederate forces. Born Gloucester New Jersey in 1818 he graduated from West Point in 1848 and fought in the Mexican War under General Taylor where he was wounded at the Battle of Buena Vista. He later became a major general in the Civil War and was honored by New Jersey after returning there.

Farmer killed while attempting to enter house at Walker Station
Albany Ga April 20 L C Manning a white farmer and merchant of Lee County was shot and killed at Walker Station by Jobi Wilkinson. Manning spent the day in Albany and, allegedly drunk, took the wrong train and tried to force entry into several houses before Wilkinson fired a .22 caliber rifle.
