High School Basketball Loses Narrow District Tournament Game
The local high school team fell 19 to 18 to Eastman High School in Hawkinsville in the 12th District Tournament. Key players fouled out or were injured, ending their season after a valiant effort and praising the Indians for their fast passes and team play. Prisoner Escapes City Jail By Sawing Through Bars
A prisoner arrested for theft, housed in the city jail, escaped early Tuesday by sawing through three iron bars and lowering himself from a second story window. Identified as Bob Lane, a Navy deserter from Newport News, Va., he had clothes stolen from McBride Brothers at Alston. Lane, about 5'8" and 160 pounds, bears multiple bullet scars and may hide near negro quarters. a reward is offered.
