Young Mens Class of First Baptist Enjoy Fish Dinner

The Young Men's Class of the First Baptist Church, with wives and friends, shared a fish dinner at Shuman's near Reidsville. There was no formal program, aside from an invocation by Dr. J. C. Brewton, and about forty attendees enjoyed fish iced tea pickles and cake in abundance.

Cobbtown Man C L Brown Dies After Short Illness

Cobbtown resident C L Brown died at Vidalia Hospital after a six week illness. He was 59, a Cobbtown Baptist Church member, survived by wife and ten children. Funeral services were held at his home conducted by Rev W M Kitch en, with McColskey Undertaking Co handling arrangements.

Mrs Louisa Hardeman Of Near Kibbee Dies

The death of Mrs Louisa Jane Hardeman occurred at her home near Kibbee on last Monday June 27 after a short illness. She was 36, born near Riley Ga later moved to Kibbee. Interment was at Riley cemetery with Rev S D Walker officiating. Funeral arrangements were by McColskey Undertaking Company. Survived by Thomas J Hardeman and L S Hardeman.

Escaped convict captured here by Chief Police Frost

Jesse Happus, an escaped convict serving a five year sentence for robbery, was captured Tuesday night by Chief of Police J. B. Frost. He had escaped over three years ago and traveled through three states while a $60 reward was offered. The Burke County sheriff was expected to return him.

First National declares thirty-eighth semi annual dividend

The First National Bank of this city declares its thirty-eighth semi annual dividend and notes dividends of 8 300.00 on all shares. The bank reports over 100 percent payout and 40 000 added to earnings, with officers and directors listed. Senator Harris, in Georgia rivers and harbors talks, secures largest appropriation for Savannah Harbor and related projects and a new survey to assess water power, navigation and flood control.

Twelfth District Medical Society Meets in Dublin

The Twelfth District Medical Association held its annual meeting in Dublin, Georgia. The program included an invocation by C. D. Graves and addresses by R. Earl Camp and J. E. New, with lectures on heart disease, nephritis, fractures, pernicious anemia, hemorrhoids, gall bladder disease, tuberculosis of joints, and surgical risk. A banquet followed at Hotel Fred Roberts.

Announcement says the Toombs County Singing Convention will convene next Sunday July 10 at Cobbs Creek Church fifteen miles south of Lyons. Singers and attendees are invited to bring dinners and spend the day.

Georgia Banks Distribute $1000000 in Ten Days to Depositors

Georgia banks report more than 100000 in ten days to depositors and creditors. Total distributions since January 1 reach 1382005.10 with 889462.35 to common depositors and 492542.75 to preferred claimants. Largest payment 54323.72 from Citizens Bank of Moultrie. Other payments included Georgia State Bank Atlanta 16010 and Bank of Cobbtown 2366.03 among others.

Toombs County Starts Shipping Sweet Potatoes

The Toombs County Sweet Potato Association began its first shipment on June 28 using portorican and Big Stem Jersey varieties. Moses Coleman Jr. reports one carload of portoricans sold in Atlanta for 2.30 per hamper, with more shipments to follow and plans for an office building near the shipping point. several associations and firms participate in distributing the crop to Eastern and Southern markets.

New Vann Tobacco Warehouse Ready for August Opening

Vidalia welcomes Vann's Tobacco Warehouse as the new facility near Jeff Davis Highway with about 50 000 square feet and a $35 000 cost. Atlanta announcement reports J N Sutton of Sylvester named state veterinarian on the recommendation of Dr A G Richardson. The post of state bee inspector held by F B Brown is abolished. Methodist Bishop to Visit Vidalia for Joint Conference

On July 13 Vidalia and six nearby charges will host a Joint Conference presided by Bishop Beauchamp at the Methodist church. A basket dinner will feed attendees arriving by 10 o'clock to hear the bishop's message, a rare stop in Vidalia.

News reached here of the death of J H Randolph a Leesburg Florida. The deceased will be remembered here as the father of Mrs J C Timmerman formerly of this city. Lots of people make a specialty of pouring ice water on enthusiasm. Never judge a man's greatness by the opinion his neighbor has.
