Special Service Postponed By Weather Across Sunday

Inclement weather last Sunday led to postponement of a planned Methodist Sunday School Men’s Class service to the coming Sunday. Choir adaptation includes male choruses and cornet by Marion Schumpert. Col. E. J. Giles of Lyons will speak and the class review will be given by Geo. S. Rountree. Rev. W. M. Blitch to lead devotions.

Mrs DeLoach Hosts Salmagundi Club Meeting

Mrs W J DeLoach entertained the Salmagundi Club at her Church Street home on Wednesday afternoon. The lower floor was decorated with plants, many invited guests attended, and four tables hosted rook games with Mrs Napier top scorer and Mrs O D Warthen consolation. A salad course followed the games.

W M S Notes From Methodist Meeting

The regular W. M. S. meeting at the church Tuesday afternoon heard Mrs. J. E. French read from Mark. Reports from superintendents followed as Mrs. D. C. Pattillo, delegate to the Albany Missionary Conference, gave an inspiring summary. Several members were absent due to illness. Bible Study Class convenes next Tuesday at 3 30 PM.

County Board Extends School Term to Six Months

At a county board of education meeting held Tuesday the board voted to lengthen the county school term for the coming year to six months. The move follows long consideration and is enabled by a county-wide tax for school purposes.

Louise Powell Passes After Brief Illness

Louise Powell six year old daughter of Mrs J R McQueen died Sunday morning at four after a two week illness. The body was taken to Glenwood for funeral and interment.

Few Sales Recorded At Tuesday Property Auction

Only a few sales occurred despite many properties offered for sale on Tuesday as claims and settlements affected outcomes. Col G W Lankford bid on assets of M W Bland and W Hartin including a Cole steam engine and boiler and saws, paying 30 dollars. W O Donovan bought 149 acres of land in 1521st District from C E Snow for 2000 dollars, under a fire foreclosure for Old Dominion Trust Co. J B Kirkland bid on Mrs G W Westberry’s land to satisfy a tax judgment, paying 12 dollars. Judge I H Corbitt purchased farm produce from W C Scott under a Savannah Guano Co. judgment: 150 bushels corn, 30 bales hay, 1500 bundles fodder, for 40 cents per bushel corn, 15 dollars per ton hay, and one dollar per hundred pounds fodder.

Judge Hagan Opens Busy February Ordinary Court

Judge Hagan presided over a February Ordinary session issuing multiple letters of dismission and administration. Guardians and administrators were appointed or granted authority to manage estates and sell real estate or land for wards and decedents including Leleah Rimes and W H Jeffries among others.

W B M U Notes Executive Meeting January At Vidalia

The Daniels Association W B M U held its second quarterly executive committee meeting January 29 at Vidalia. Weather kept out-of-town members but those present engaged in devotional and business discussions. Mrs Fred Harris was elected chairman of stewardship tithing bands. Mrs Bomar agreed to join White Cross with Hospital work. Mrs J C Price reported seed sowing for a W M S at South Thompson. The committee urged ongoing land possession efforts through united prayer and cooperation.

Kaufman Quartet to Perform in Vidalia on Feb 16

The Kaufman Male Quartet, hailed as the best on the concert platform, arrives in Vidalia next Thursday February 16 as the final attraction of the Lyceum course. Music lovers are urged to attend for an evening of rare enjoyment and a packed city hall is anticipated. John Lee Meadows has built a modern concrete dairy barn and milks nine cows, with plans to expand the herd.

Dr M P Jarnigan to speak in Toombs County dairying talks

Dr Milton P Jarnigan head of the livestock department at Athens State College will address Toombs County citizens at the Courthouse Friday February 10 at 10 am on dairying. He also speaks at Vidalia City Hall Friday afternoon at 3 pm. His work improves dairying in the South and he manages a 400 acre farm plus other farming interests in Tennessee.
