First Cotton Bale Sold in Vidalia as New Season Opens
The first bale of the new Vidalia crop sold Monday, weighing 485 pounds and graded middling, bought by J. R. Coombs for ten and a half dollars. Toombs County’s crop is expected around 4000 bales, greatly down from last year’s 5800. Acreage fell about 15 percent and fertilizer use dropped over 50 percent amid rains and weevil pressure. Five gins will operate in the county with buyers at most markets.

H A Clements supervised the test from nine to one, with papers sent to the civil service commission for grading. About sixty days are expected for results.
