Allen Carney Chosen Assistant Editor at Clarendon College Weekly

Two Stores Move During Next Week

Russell's department store will move from the Muurrays building at Pease and Main to the Kincheloe building on Pease street. Removal begins Saturday night, with hopes to vacate the old building by mid next week and have the new location ready by late next week. T. B. Smythe & Son will relocate into the Murray building once vacated, as Thifts W. Blanton departs for Texas Tech projects in Lubbock.

Wichita Man 70 Start Well Soon

Tom Hunter and associates of Wichita Falls acquired a lease on forty acres a quarter mile north of Bridwell Heydrick Dill No 1 for 150 dollars per acre. The sale followed a Bridwell Heydrick well expanding to over 400 barrels, boosting regional values and signaling imminent development plans though dates were not set.

Hurtten Spears Open New Filling Station

A new filling station has been opened on West Wilharger street at the Colorado ink Highway near the tourist ark. Proprietors are Fred Schuette and Raymond Spears. Spears has five years experience with Auto Tire and Bar ry Company, while Schuette has farm experience and is well known countywide.

Refinery Prospect Explored in Vernon South Vernon Field

Glenn D. Peeler of Olney an official of Home Refinery spent Wednesday in Vernon and the South Vernon field assessing possibilities for a refinery to handle oil from the field. He discussed contracting production for refining at Vernon and noted a movable 250 barrel plant could be used with suitable crude supply. Plans include a pipeline from the field to Vernon though exact arrangements were not disclosed. No site action was taken pending firmer plans and greater field production before committing steps.

Vernon Placed in Second Class as To Water Supply

Vernon has been placed in second grade for municipal water supply in the state. Dr Malone Duggan, late health officer, announces that 208 towns are in Class B, including Asperillo Childress Cathar and Wichita Falls, with Vernon grouped with Alvord Archer City Bowie Burkbet net Chillicothe Clarendon Claude Crowell Electra Mesquite Menri ta and Town Park. Grade A covers safely drinkable water with monthly state reporting, Grade B includes towns not fully compliant but improving, and a small set remains unfit except when treated.

The Palice drug store will open for business about October 1 in the Burk building on West Texas Street Vernon. Howard Richie owner announces remodeling is underway and fixtures arrive next week with a target opening not later than October 4. Dr J N Tut will run the preservation department and the venture marks Richie as a rising Vernon businessman with long Wilbarger county ties.

51 Pound Pumpkin Exhibit At Wichita Falls County Fair

A 51 pound pumpkin raised by A C Sherrard four miles east of Vernon PD is part of the county exhibit. County Agent Chaney says it is the finest pumpkin seen this year at the Witbarger exhibit. Also a 52 pound watermelon was secured for display.

New High School On West Yamparika Near Ready

Wilbar ger County judging team to Amarillo contest

Thomas Channan left Wednesday for Amarillo to enter the judging contest at the Tri-State Fair. The remaining Wilbar ger County team members could not go. Bridwell and Hendrick’s Vernon No.1 well rises from 400 to 440 barrels daily as storage runs full and tank cars lag. Operators from Wichita Falls to Fort Worth visit Vernon, with W. G. Burton and others negotiating acreage and planning drilling. Field seen as gaining dominance in North Texas, potentially rivaling Archer and Young counties.
