The Panhandle Conference of the Texas District of the Missouri Synod met September 9 to 15 at St Paul Lutheran Church led by pastor Rev. J A Birnbaum. About twenty pastors and missionaries attended. Rev. Fr Heckmann of Abilene was elected chairman. Services featured preaching by Rev A Arndt Cisco and Rev P Klenk Olney. Lectures included “Concerning the Worship of the Saints” and “Socialism” with Rev C M Beyer of Wichita Falls. The gathering urged mission support and featured choirs and visiting ministers.

State engineers approve highway west of Vernon
Engineers from the State Highway Department and the Bureau of Roads inspected the concrete section on State Highway No. 5 west of the Pease River bridge toward Tolbert. State To Supervise Maintenance of Two Highways in County
The State Highway Department has taken over maintenance of State Highway No. 5 and No. 28 in the county under department supervision. It has funded work since the takeover, but supervision remained with County Commissioners. No specific measures for active state oversight have been announced. Highway 5 runs east to northwest known as Colorado Gulf highway. Highway 28 extends northeast to Oklahoma line, joining No. 1 at Oklahoma ion, following Vernon toward the county fair grounds and then toward the Foard County line.
