Uniform flag decoration by American Legion movement

The American Legion promotes a uniform city wide flag display for special occasions. About 125 flags, four by six feet, on twelve foot poles are angled to avoid awnings. Former Elder of Vernon District Ends Life in Durant

Rev J G Miller longtime Methodist pastor and former Vernon district presiding elder died by suicide in Durant Oklahoma at 72. He left notes denying recent charges and stated he was ending his life to spare his family and church. Survived by his widow and three daughters in California and Canada. Funeral arrangements reported for Abilene.

House Raid Near Harrold Seizes Whiskey and Bottles

Sheriff Frank Edmonson and deputies raided the Jeff Houtchens home one mile west of Harrold Sunday afternoon. They captured nine tons of corn whiskey and 200 bottles of chocolate beer. Jeff Houtchens and Brownie Wright were taken into custody. they posted bond.

Mrs. George Clark Dies at Home in Fort Worth

Mrs. George Clark of Fort Worth died yesterday afternoon after a six month illness. She was sister of L. G. Hawkins of Verrion and Mrs. D. W. May of Fargo and wife of a veteran Fort Worth & Denver conductor. Mrs. May and the Hawkinses traveled to attend the funeral set for tomorrow.

Mrs Gilliland’s Condition Reported Unchanged

Mrs. J. A. Gilliland remains in a local sanitarium after a stroke about ten days ago. Reports say she is still very grave. An appeal to all people of diverse races and tongues urges love and understanding of the flag as a symbol of liberty.

Army General Warns Klansmen At Camp Custer Rally

Brigadier General George Van Horn Moseley commands Camp Custer Michigan and orders fire on a hill if masked Knights rally on government property while guardsmen are encamped. Under his orders 85 Klansmen were arrested. Moseley served on General Pershing's WWI staff and is regarded as a brilliant young officer.

Drilling Quiet Over Weekend With Several Test Drifts

Oil operations over the weekend were largely quiet with a niper sands find in the Bridwell and Heidrick on the Dill place. A test near 1450 feet aims to offset Wells-Gunberson which yields about 10 barrels daily.

The Sunday school class of Mies Missouri Huggins will host a watermelon feast at Allinghan Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Members of the elite are invited to attend and are asked to bring a melon. Children of members are especially invited to come.

Wind and Rain Cause Heavy Damage in West Vernon

A southwest storm last night around 10 o clock tore roofs from homes and barns in West Vernon injuring Mrs Jeffries who received medical care. Roofs were stripped from houses, trees toppled, and a garage collapsed. Damage to goods estimated over 1000 dollars with several homes losing windows and shingles. Communication to rural areas was cut as telephone lines were blown down.

The M. W. A. team Vernon defeated Electra 13 to 9 Sunday afternoon in a Texas league game. Vernon led 3-1 after the first inning, with heavy hitting from both sides. Curley Wright and Pal Arrested for Liquor Transportation

Curley Wright and a companion named Irwin were arrested in Electra by Sheriff Minons on Friday afternoon for suspected transportation and possession of intoxicating liquor. Gilispie of Harrold precinct provided the information leading to the arrest after Sunday School members spotted activity in Waggoner pasture. The liquor, concealed in the woods, was found with 47 and a half gallons left behind as deputies pursued the pair who fled in a waiting car. The prisoners were taken to Vernon and bond was posted.

Miss Golda Smith Buried Saturday in Fargo Cemetery

Golda Smith 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J W Smith of Vernon area, died Saturday morning after illness. Funeral services were held at Fargo Cemetery Saturday afternoon with Rev J W Sharp and Rev W L Jenking officiating. Survived by parents and several siblings.

Aged Woman Dies at Home of Son in Vernon

Mrs. Margaret Anne Caldwell, 82, died at her son BET Caldwell’s home on South Main Street Sunday morning after arriving from Bentonville Arkansas. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 o’clock at the home conducted by Dr BL PF Lyon and Rev PL Kapp. Interment at East View Cemetery. Survivors include husband WoW Caldwell and three sons. The family had recently moved from Texas to live with their Vernon son.

Fargo Revival Ends After Eight Days of Meetings

A revival at the Fargo Methodist church concluded Sunday night after eight days of services. The event led to thirteen conversions with Rev. J. H.
