Four Tests Set On Waggoner Ranch Oil Project

Four drilling tests begin on the Waggoner hinds ten tiles southeast of Vernon. J B Leedy of Tulsa will drill on section SL 665 block 14. J R Staley and Chester Wynn of Wichita Falls drill on southeast corner of 109. Bud Horrell of El Dorado Oklahoma is to drill on sections 37 and 51. C E Burtons of Texas Pacific Coal and Oil Co. drills on sections 38 and 49 all in block 14. Depth contract is 2005 feet.

Mr and Mrs C A Coggeshall of San Antonio traveled here this week to visit her uncle Judge FP L McHugh on their way home after a summer in California. McHugh had not seen his niece in fifty years though they both have lived in Texas.

Guy Waggoner Recovers From Edinburgh Operation

Guy L. Waggoner sailed to Edinburgh Scotland to consult a noted specialist and underwent an operation for stomach trouble. A cablegram received Wednesday morning from Tt. L. Sere states the operation was a success and his condition is satisfactory. Waggoner and his wife arrived in Edinburgh Friday and the operation was performed Tuesday.

Miss D. Patterson daughter of Mrs FE Maize left Sunday to visit her uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs W H Wilkinson of Wichita Parke. She is a senior at the local high school and is recovering from an appendectomy. She hopes to return to school about November first.

Oil test wells planned north of Pense River face

Derrick work begins on the Kester farm near Vernon to test a well site east of Odell. Hamilton and associates of Wichita Falls oversee drilling on section 7, Mock VI, Wilbarger County, with three test wells planned north of the river and near Odell. Contracts set drilling to start by December 10 and locals expect substantial oil potential from the Red River area.

Expansion seen in deal on Section 84 lease

Mitchison and Pigg of Vernon this Week transferred the east 40 acres of the northeast quarter of section 34, clock 14, XTC, Wilbarger to Roy Carter and Joseph W. Phillies of Wichita. The fifty fifty drilling contract ends for drilling operations within forty tiers. The deal marks a major extension in the South Vernon field with plans to start heavy development soon. The Morhison and Pires deal represents the farthest northeast extension scheduled for immediate development as several other wells and deals are pending nearby.

Five Injured in Car Crash on East Paving

Maurine and Oia Lee Gregory, daughters of Dr. Z Gregory, two miles east of Vernon, were injured Tuesday night when their car collided with a parked Ford on the paving east of Vernon. Earlier the Gregory car was struck in a passing collision that damaged fenders as they neared home and tried to pass a spotlight. The two sisters suffered bruises and glass cuts, Dr. Gregory escaped with minor injuries, and all were treated at a local hospital and released.

Cotton Breaks On Government Crop Reports

A sharp drop followed the government crop report issued about the condition of the cotton crop. The report showed 54.5 percent in warm conditions with an indicated production of 72,499,000 bales. Prices fell from earlier gains, with the March and October contracts dropping, as traders hurried to sell in New York and New Orleans.

New Speed Record Set in Sea Plane Racer

Lieutenant David Rittenhouse flew a Navy Curtiss seaplane over Long Island Sound reaching 242 miles an hour, beating his own world mark by over fifty miles. The flight was to defend the Schneider Cup, but entries from England and Italy withdrew before the race at Baltimore, Maryland.

J A Hall was the first man to pay taxes for the year 1924 and Mrs M Blair paid the first poll tax. Tax time began October 1 and Blair reports brisk business with many paying early. Delinquents for 1923 and prior years face an added ten percent penalty if unpaid by December 31, 1924.

AEMP Birdsong Oil Field Developments Near Kemp

Oil field activity centers on Kemp area with Bridwell & Heydrick and Wells-Guiberson producing around 400 barrels daily. Wichita Firm Buys Large South Vernon Field Lease

Barkley and Meadows of Wichita Falls closed a deal for norty acres in the east half of the south half of the northeast quarter of section St paying cash and an eighth royalty. They will begin drilling soon to develop the acreage. The sale, from the Zavaguesta Ol Company, marks one of the week’s largest deals and adds a major independent to the field’s interests. Other deals are pending and expected to close soon, signaling stability and ongoing development.
