A large group of Vernon business men and the Vernon band joined Elliott residents for a box and pie supper at the Elliott Baptist church. A. P. Mason led the program, auctioned pies and boxes to raise funds for a new piano, with sums from $1 to $9.75 and total receipts near $100. Ve rnon guests were welcomed and invited to return for future events.

J F Fisher and Vernie Carroll wed at 30 o clock Monday morning with TJ Griffiths Justice of the Peace officiating in Vernon. Both residents of Bradley Corner, they plan to remain there. Remodeling on the Tint ry Mason building has begun with Allen and Davis Scaffolding set up. The Vernon Record’s new home at Texas and Cumberland is nearing completion with interior finishing underway and occupancy expected in November.

Commissioners to Consider Bids on Jail Improvement

County commissioners meet to review bids for a third story addition to the county jail including cells and equipment. The project aims to separate whites and blacks and reduce confinement of insane and juvenile prisoners, with costs and timing still undecided but action urged soon.

Fawin Lisman a former Vernon fan now voice teacher at Bush Temple sang on Dallas News radio to delighted Vernon friends and many nationwide. Memorial Window for Soldiers To Be Placed in Church

A drive to install a memoriaI window in the new Presbyterian church honors Wilbarger county soldiers who died in World War I or served their country. Citizens may donate via B. I. Moore, pastor, or Bo M. Haney, American Legion commander. The cost will not be great.

Vernon students record high grades among Texas affiliates

Vernon high school graduates show higher average freshman grades than the state average among 22 affiliated schools. Vernon freshmen averaged 4.70 in five courses, while Vernon grads hit 6.20 passing average. Ten schools posted higher averages. others listed include Burkburnett Denton Flatonia Ia Grange McAllen Ozone Sabinal Silsbee Stanton Curilla. Vernon freshmen also excel in the University ride and compare favorably with top high schools in Texas. The report credits improving work in local schools and notes continued progress since 1910 across Texas high schools.

Father Reunites With Daughter After Ten Year Search

Joseph Kline spent years crisscrossing the nation in seven trips before reuniting with his 16 year old daughter Dorothy in Cleveland Ohio. Dorothy had been adopted locally after her mother died when she was one. An adoption error erased records of her foster parents, but the girl wandered into a neighborhood memory and identified her father. Foster parents agreed to relinquish Dorothy to him.

Work Progressing on Presbyterian Church Building

The brick work on the new Mod erated Presbyterian hotel building on West Wilbarger Street is nearly finished. The roof is being put up and interior finishing will start soon. The building is to be ready for occupancy by December 1.

Melvin Deason Dies After Brief Illness at Age 8

Edgar Melvin Deason, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. W L B R Deason, died Friday at his Deaf Smith Street home after a two day illness. Walls of New Lutheran Church Under Way

Work on the new Lutheran church on East Wilbarger street is progressing rapidly. The walls will be up to roof height in a short time and the finishing of the building will be rushed. Contractor R. J. Jones says the building will be completed within the next few weeks.

Missionary District Dinner at Methodist Church

About 100 diners at the Methodist church dining room enjoyed Olineheon Piteschay with guests attending the Missionary District conference. Mrs Haekus headed the committee serving the meal. The bread and rolls were baked by the City Bakery, with Belle of Vernon slang used in the rolls.

Paradise Band Makes Rapid Musical Progress Near Vernon

The Paradise band of twelve youths living southwest of Vernon is advancing quickly toward first class status. They are being instructed by Robert S Read, Vernon band director. A public Vernon concert drew favorable comments, with Trulse performing on the closing night of the community week celebration. Piper Family Moves to Los Angeles for Banking Career

Miss Lorene Ashby Weds Mr Myrick in Vernon Ceremony
