New Engine Arrives for City Light Plant

A new S00-horsepower Morse engine arrived for the city light plant and will be installed, enabling about 30 days of operation. Valued at roughly $217,000, the engine will join existing units to raise total plant horsepower. The move required a Caterpillar to shuttle the heavy equipment down Cumberland Street to the pavement, then along Craw Cumberland Street, overcoming ground sinking and taking nearly two days to reach the plant.

W. M. Hazard Sells Cotton Record Price for 11 Bales

Wilbarger County farmer W. M. Hazard, southwest of Vernon, sold 11 cotton bales at 35 cents per pound. The sale set a county year record, bringing in $1780.10 without seed after ginning. Hazard sold the bales in one lot, noting light bale weight but high price overall.

Mrs E T Murchison Stricken by Stroke on Smith Street

Mrs E T Murchison suffered a stroke at about 3 o clock Thursday afternoon at her home on Smith Street and is critically ill. She had been in poor health for some time but remained active until yesterday. She was unconscious for a time after the stroke and it was feared she might not survive the night. Reports from the bedside today say there has been little change in her condition.

Grand Jury Indicts Several Here in 46th District Court

The 46th District Court grand jury convened Monday and returned multiple indictments. Arrestees were bound on bond or jailed, including B C Jones and Willie Reynolds, youths from the Farge community, facing charges of petty theft, burglary, and robbery. Man and girl held in jail after runaway pair case

Sheriff Frank Edmondson jailed a one year old girl and a two and a half year old boy found living as man and wife. A complaint will be filed against the man while the girl stays for her father and husband, both from Hlooking County. The girl had married two months earlier to a Hopkins County resident and traveled to Dallas with a couple who had three years of marriage and no own child. They went to the Fair then returned home as the mother and child learned the pair had fled Dallas three weeks ago. The runaways had been living there while the man worked.
