Canyon Pep Squad Heads to Denton for Game

Fifteen members of the Red Men pep squad from West Texas State Teachers College at Canyon rode a large motor bus through Vernon on Sunday en route to Denton to support the North Texas State Teachers College team in yesterday's game. They stopped for supper and gave a sample of their footing in cafes and hotels before the all-night drive to Denton.

Col Herring Visits Vernon On Business Trip

C. T. Herring of Amarillo is in Vernon for a few days to attend to property interests in West Texas and visit his daughter Mrs. L. K. Johnson. He praises Vernon as one of the best towns in the region and notes the prosperous conditions of the year.

Young Man Clifton Emmett Dies by Self-Inflicted Bullet

Clifton Emmett aged 20, son of farmer P.M. Emmett near Doans, died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the heart after leaving a note for his mother. A brother found him before help arrived. funeral held at East View cemetery with Rev. F. D. Picarson officiating. He survived by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters, all living in the county.

Yellow Cab Service Set for Vernon In December

Vernon will receive Yellow Cab service from Chicago firm with T. L. Porter as local representative. Cabs are due about December 1 and will operate from a stand in front of the Liberty Cafe linking Vernon with 44,000 other cities already offering the service.

Henry Karcher of the Frank Minarik place six miles northeast of Vernon sustained 1128 seed cotton wounds when cotton nickers smoking cigarettes ignited the load on a wagon. The blaze caused minor damage to the wagon.

Vernon Lad Dies Carving Name In Gravel Pit Cave-In

George Bright 18 son of Mr and Mrs Carl Bright of this city was crushed to death in a cave-in at an old gravel pit north of Vease river near the Fargo road on Sunday afternoon. Paul Dunbar 13 and two others escaped serious harm as volunteers and townspeople aided in the rescue, with Bright dying instantly under the falling debris. Funeral arrangements set for 4 p m at East View Cemetery.

Local Man Hurt in Car Crash Near Austin

John B. Morris sustained bruises and cuts on his right hand in a car accident twenty miles south of Austin while returning from a deer hunt with his brother-in-law K I Green of Wheeler. The vehicle overturned on a sharp curve. Green had minor bruises. They continued the journey after repairs, arriving in Vernon Saturday. Morris had killed three buck deer and several wild turkeys on his hunting trip.
