City contracts to buy big new pump
Vernon officials have agreed to purchase a large centrifugal water pump from Hardwicke-Etter Hardware Co of Sherman for about one thousand dollars installed. The pump will deliver five hundred gallons per minute to city mains, and officials hope to have it installed before summer to meet higher water demand. City Engineer A I Robinson and Mayor Harry Mason noted the selection could save nearly two thousand dollars compared with a reciprocating model.

Frost Kills Green Grass In Eastland County
D. D. McConnell, traveling by horseback toward Eastland, reports a June frost that he believes is the latest ever in the area. A norther blew in about dark, the sky clouded by a sand cloud, and he spent the night afoot to keep warm. The next day he reached Eastland, noting post oak trees and about a dozen houses in the square, with deer roaming the town. McConnell is a former Eastland postmaster and justice of the peace, and has ties to Vernon since 1886.
