Hundreds Pay Last Tribute to Pioneer Vernon Physician
Crowell, Chillicothe and nearby towns sent large crowds to Vernon for the funeral of Dr J. E Dodson Sr. at 4 pm on Tuesday. Flowers adorned the service as a Knights Templar guard and Masonic rites led the ceremony with Dr Rob Dickenson directing. Burial followed at East View.

Fires Destroy Ernest Smith Home on South Pearl Street
A residence occupied by Ernest Smith on South Pearl Street was damaged by two fires in one night. The second blaze gutted the building, with the first alarm at 8:28 o clock. Vernon man Tom Ross guilty in Lubbock jury verdict
Tom Ross, known as His Loftus in Vernon, was found guilty yesterday in the district court at Lubbock of killing cattle inspector W. Allison and was sentenced to 35 years in the penitentiary. He smiled at the verdict as his lawyers plan a motion for a new trial.

Vernon Oil Men Hit Fourth Well Near Moran
Moran field reports Vernon men drilling on 45 acres near Putman have brought in their fourth well in six weeks. The well yields about 15 barrels from 100 feet. The venture is named Keyes and Nickel with several Vernon investors. Plans call for 15 wells total and ongoing output around 60 barrels per day from the four wells.

County Agent P. D. Chaney reports some wheat in Wilbarger County yielded exceptionally well while other fields failed. T. Smith near Vernon harvested 2.24 bushels per acre on over 100 acres with grain testing 59 pounds per bushel. Fred Streit 15 miles southwest of Vernon averaged 15 bushels on 300 acres. Ed Whorle on Allingham farm near Waggoner district also about 15 bushels per acre. Several other good yields noted, though some farmers faced almost total losses.

M. Neel residing several miles southwest of Vernon holds one seventh of an acre of blackberries that have brought substantial income for five years. Last season he sold 387 percent worth of berries from the patch at a rate of 2625 dollars per acre, and this season he achieved nearly the same level of success.

Narrow escape as car overturns on West Wilbarger Street
Three young people Miss Carpenter Miss McWiheny and R Moore of Electra were driving a Morch when Miss McWiheny fainted causing Carpenter to accelerate. The vehicle hit rough ground at the paving end and toppled. Dr W R Moore and helpers freed Carpenter and Moore from the wreck. The windshield shattered and the top was wrecked.
