Local School Board Names Complete Faculty at Vernon High

The City School Board approved a full Vernon High teaching staff led by W. J. Lofland as new superintendent and A. Williamson as principal. The list includes Miss Margaret Alexander, Miss Winnie Worterfield, Miss Catherine Chapman, Mrs Della Troussels, Miss Serena Frient, Mr Grayden Wilemon, Miss Ruth Terry, Miss Thelma Lockwood, W. Cook, Tustace Baggett, O. Shepherd, Miss Ivora Clark, Miss Edith Rus Williams and others. The superintendent praised the group as highly trained and capable, with plans to expand Home Economics and Vocational programs to improve education.

Candidates file expense accounts and DeMolay meeting

The county clerk receives first of three expense accounts from candidates with amounts listed for many individuals. The Vernon Chapter of DeMolay No. 240 will meet at 8 o'clock Tuesday night in the Masonic Hall. all members are urged to attend.

Mrs Tuner Nason Buried in Vernon

Mrs. Turner Mason widow of Turner Mason died suddenly Wednesday night at her home in Vernon. Funeral held today at 4 30 at J J Wright home with Dr E Dickenson officiating. She was the eldest daughter of J J Creager and was married in Vernon September 2 1900. Interment in East View beside her infant child. Survived by husband and three sisters.

Oil tests in Wilbarger County and death of R P Webb

Oil drilling reports fill Wilbarger County with tests at A P Morris and Wells-Guiberson sites near Oklaunion and Vernon. RP Webb, 64, Vernon civic figure, died after a stroke at his daughter’s home, with services in Vernon and burial at Alvord. Survived by his wife and five children.

T. J. Youngblood Wins Vernon Trap Shoot

At a Vernon meeting a trap shoot yielded T. J. Youngblood with 90 hits of 100 to win a $5 prize. Scott Hall placed second with 79 hits, while B. Daniels did not enter but hit 93. Other entrants included J. G. Sherman 65, Russell White 63, John Odd 57, Paul Waggoner 55, and more.

Pond Laundry Team Edges M W A In 1 0 Victory

The Pond Laundry baseball team of Wichita Falls defeated the Modern Woodmen of America nine 1 to 0 at the fair park Sunday afternoon. The visitors had 11 hits with no errors while the locals managed four hits off a Wichita spitball pitcher. A return game is planned and next they face a nine from Iowa Park.

Rev. L. P. Koon, conducting evangelistic and church organ duties for three weeks on the plain, returns to his wife who is ill with malaria fever. She is improving.

Boiler Explodes During Test at Hale Davis Farm

An explosion wrecked a boiler during a Wednesday test at the Hale Davis farm one mile south of town. A weak crown plate caused the blast. no injuries occurred as workers had checked steam and water levels minutes before. All machinery remained intact and crew prepared to install a new boiler at the site.

Local Light Plant To Improve Property In North Vernon

Plans to erect an addition to Morrison and McFall properties near the Denver tracks. The ice plant capacity, now 25 tons daily, will be doubled to 50 tons. Estimated cost around 35,000. Morrison comments during a visit with R S L Smith, plant manager, on the way to Yellowstone Park.

Crowds attend Baptist tabernacle on Main Street to hear Dr. Bh. F. Lyon and singer Hh. Hiett. Two daily services run from morning to evening with Lyon delivering sermons and Hiett guiding the singing. Hiett is on his third Vernon visit and enjoys strong congregational support.

American Legion Declines Sponsorship of 1925 Chautauqua

Members of the American Legion meeting at the library decided not to sponsor the 1925 Chautauqua after about half the required tickets were secured. W. N. Stokes J. A. Pendleton and TT Vierce spoke with the group and explained the guarantee but they chose not to back the movement at that time.

Governor Taylor to Speak in Greenville With Tennessee Fiddling Flight

Dr A P Monsard received a Greenville letter urging him to attend July 1 events with ex Governor Alf A Taylor of Tennessee. Taylor will lecture on Up Salt River and address local Tennesseans the next day. Invitations target fiddlers including Bek Hobinson and Lewis Franklin.

First Story of C. T. Smith Building Nears Completion

The first story of the C. T. Smith building at Main road Penne streets is nearing completion with subflooring nearly done. Work is rushed to be ready for tenants and a foundation base for a new adjoining building, the A. Dix, is planned to join the Smith structure. Excavation for the Merchison building between Pixen Place and Waggoner National Bank began Wednesday and is progressing rapidly.

Wilbarger County Wheat Yield Seen As Best In Years

Wheat yields in Wilbarger County range from 15 to 44 bushels per acre with many fields testing around 60 to 62 pounds per bushel after showers. Notable producers include Ernest Kareher on C. T. Smith farm reporting 44 bushels per acre in a TO-acre field, Lon Byars with about 650 acres averaging 27 bushels, and Jesse Done reporting 85 bushels per acre on a 40-acre plot. Harvests are underway across communities and shipments move toward Oklahoma City and Vernon, with three weeks remaining before completion around July 20.
