Couple jailed after raised check at local dry goods store
A young white man staying at a local hotel and a young woman were arrested after a counterfeit check was raised from 6.25 to 60.25 at a dry goods store. The pair, living as a married couple, confessed they were not married. Police found 26 empty paregorie bottles in the room. Davis 27 nephew of Mrs. G G Rogers of this city drowned near Electra while swimming with a companion. A passing Negro rescued the body after a few minutes in water but he did not recover.
