Vernon Surges On After Oil Boom With New Growth Ahead
Vernon recovered quickly after a three year excess in building during the oil boom. By 1923 about 400000 dollars of new construction rose, and by 1928 activity intensified with hundreds of thousands more expected. The city’s farm belt base and conservative economy kept it from ghost town ruin, enabling steady expansion and substantial new structures including hospitals, churches, residences, and utility upgrades.
