South Vernon Company Passes Up Good Sand
The Stephens well at 1718 feet in South Vernon encountered a brown sand expected to yield at least ten barrels. This is the sixth sand the well has met, with oil produced from five sands. The company will not complete the well yet and continues drilling deeper, with a plan to return to the 1718 foot sand if the deeper sand is not found. The 12 mile south of Vernon location is the second well the firm has drifted. A previous bore near the current site found gas that ignited after shutdown, burning the rig. Interest in leases has risen as oil men from other towns visit. Little information is being released.
