Woodrow Wilson Dies At 11 15 Am In Washington

Woodrow Wilson former US president died at his Washington home Sunday morning at 11 15 o clock. The death occurred peacefully with wife Ellen and daughter Margaret beside him as doctors and Admiral Grayson observed. The immediate cause was exhaustion from arteriosclerosis with hemiplegia and a digestive disturbance. reporters noted a long illness and Wilson’s final sleep-like passing.

Cosi fan Tutte Comes to Vernon Theater Tomorrow

Tickets are selling rapidly for the Opera Comique Cosi fan Tutte at the Vernon Theater under the Federated Clubs. The William Wade Hinshaw production features Miss Trene Williams and Judson Flouse with a star cast including Pierre Renmuington and Count Leo de Tfieranolis. Alfred Calzin will preside at the piano, and Joseph Prban directs the production using Metropolitan costumes. Tickets are at Vernon Drug Store.

Bond Issue Carried by Large Vote in Harrold District

A road bond proposal in the Harrold district won decisively in Saturday’s election with 240 yes votes to 29 no from 249 total ballots. The plan funds a hard surface road from the Wichita County line through Barcrest on the Gulf Colorado Highway, with bids to be called after approval and construction started soon. Vote tallies also show Guyver 27 yes 2 no Elliott 48 yes 19 no and Harrold 15 yes 9 no.

New Demonstration Agent to Arrive Today

Miss Emma Rosalind Gunter will arrive today from Viewland to take charge as home demonstration agent for Wilbarger County. Miss Bula Goodfellow resigned January 31 after nearly three years in the office. Miss Mamie Lee Vraysen, district agent, will be here tomorrow to assist Miss Gunter in mapping out her work for the coming year.

Silver Tea Hosted by Vernon Parent Teachers

Members of the Vernon High and ward school Parent-Teachers Associations will hold a silver tea at Mrs. Paul Goetze's home on February 14 and 15. The high school division hosts the first evening and the ward school association hosts the second. All parents teachers and friends are invited with a special program planned each night.

Tourist Park Kept Open By Chamber of Commerce Lease

A Vernon Chamber of Commerce committee secured a lease from Wilbarger County Fair Association for Tourist Park at 240 yearly, with a seven wire fence on three sides. Officials debated a fair rental, with the Park to remain open to the public and used by schools under school board responsibility for any damages during athletic events. The plan envisions making the grounds a county park supervised by the court, except when the fair operates.

Highest Per Cent Tax Collection Registered Here

Payments of city taxes this year will reach more than 90 percent of the total levy, Mayor Tiarcy Mason said yesterday. Already 93.9 percent of the $5,726.19 levy has been paid and several hundred dollars more are expected in the next few days. Despite a tax rate hold, the city expects higher revenue due to the high collection percentage.

Fire Destroys Vernon Businesses in Massive Blaze

A late night fire in Vernon originated at the Dixon Dry Goods Company and raged through Main Street, destroying Dixon’s building and threatening the district. Wind-driven flames damaged Massie Coffee, Shire Piper Wright Grocery, the Waggoner National Bank, Sigler building, Brunson and Williams front, and more, with losses near 175000 to 175000 or more and insurance covering a portion. Fire crews from Vernon and neighboring towns battled the blaze as residents evacuated and insurers assessed total damage.
