Three Miles More County Paving Contract Let

Contracts let Wednesday for nearly three miles of additional paving in Wilbarger County totaling just over 95 000 dollars. Work to begin immediately and run through completion before winter. J Fory awarded the Oklainton east townsite pavement project while B O Gilstrap won the Fargo road bid and differences in bids arise from freight and water costs. Federal state highway approvals delay final closing on the Oklainton contract as paving on the Colorado Gulf highway is postponed to spring for grade setting.

Joint Meeting For Rio Grande Valley Early in December

J. Wells field director of the Colorado-Gulf Highway toured Vernon en route West. He will help organize a joint meeting of the Colorado-Gulf Highway Association with the Rio Grande Valley Chamber of Commerce to be held in the valley early in December. The exact town is to be decided. Residents from Colorado and Texas are pledging to attend, and the event will wrap up in time for attendees to visit the Harlingen valley fair.

Jim Bellar Sees Tight Land Cotton Thriving North of Vernon

Jim Bellar reports tight land cotton is fruiting fast and will likely produce a larger crop than last year. He farms 200 acres eight miles northwest of Vernon and says the rain came in time to aid growth.

Preparations for the Wilbarger County Fair proceed with enthusiasm. Manager R H Coffee travels to adjacent counties and Oklahoma to promote the event. Wortham Shows plans a strong midway with posters along highways and new features. Both track work and race horses promise fast competition and larger attendance.

Allingham Park Center Plea for Vernon Citizenship

Mrs. W. H. Huggins urges Vernon residents to visit Allingham Park as a social center before September. The east side features a shaded lawn, lily pond, and flower beds. the west holds trees and ornamental plantings. a central flower bed, eight foot walk, and a cement stage enhance Community Week activities. Playground equipment for children is under erection with swings and boards planned, plus a drinking fountain to be added.

Cattle rustlers active near Vernon in Texas

W. P. Thomas, ranchman, reported to the sheriff that one head of mixed stock cattle was taken from his ranch eight miles east of Vernon on Sunday or Sunday night. The left hip brand was noted. Police across Texas and into Oklahoma are being asked to watch for the cattle amid ongoing rustling reports.

Wheat Takes Buick Agency For Vernon Territory

J. Wheat of Wichita Falls has taken the Buick Agency for Vernon territory and will open sales rooms in the Vernon Implement Company building. He was in Vernon Tuesday arranging the opening and is known locally from his Wichita Falls auto business with his son E. O. Wheat.

The booster trip to Elliott scheduled for Thursday night was postponed due to heavy rains and bad roads. With a revival meeting in Elliott, Chamber of Commerce officials opted to wait until after it ends. The trip is expected to be rescheduled for next Tuesday night pending definite plans.
