Vernon man hatches 500 chickens from mixed breeds
J. R. Messick of Vernon route 1 reports 500 young chickens from Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, Black Langshaws, and crosses. He has four incubators currently running and expects to stop setting eggs after the current hatch, aiming for May chickens. He notes about 85 percent hatch success and prefers broiler qualities over layers.
