Kenneth Sowards will meet Ralph Ashton Sunday at 3 30 p m on the Jaycee court in Vernal city park to decide the men singles title in a tournament sponsored by the Uintah Recreational Council. Early doubles saw Sowards Hatch and Ashton Preece advance as favorites. Nine matches plus 42 games decided the singles title as spectators followed the new Jaycee court and the Naples court.

Fire damages Alvin Kay residence in week’s fires
One of four fires in the week caused damage to Alvin Kay's residence. Fire Chief C. R. Jeffries said a defective chimney flue started the blaze, controlled within an hour, with about 1500 dollars in damage and slight water damage. Earlier, the Heber Haws home in the Karren addition had minor oil furnace flame damage.
