A new fifty mile road from West Beach on Willow Creek east rim to the Grand county line nears completion under James Marr of the Division of Grazing. The Civilian Conservation Corps, Uintah county, and local crews built most of the route, with two side roads, blasting through hills to yield an eighteen foot crown in places. The project links West Bench to Buck Canyon and Buck Canyon to Willow Creek, with plans to connect to Green River and extend toward Mesa Verde and Yellowstone Park areas.
Utah will gain 34 CCC camps for Oct 1 1939 to Mar 31 1940 with ten new sites seven reestablished and 16 closed. Funeral services were held Friday in Naples with a mixed quartet, solo, and remarks by A G Gondrich and Bishop Manwaring. Interment at Vernal Memorial Park. Survived by husband Jacob W Olsen and 6 children, 23 grandchildren, 3 siblings, and a half-sister.
At a joint session of the State Road Commission and the County Commissioners in Vernal plans were discussed to complete OT 840 west of Vernal. A four mile project costing 80000 is in the 1939-40 program with realignment to avoid a dwelling and a fox farm. Work to start next spring after winter preparations and right-of-way actions. Oiling of 24 miles through Strawberry to be finished in two weeks. Attending were commission members Hammond, Knowlton, Carr, Abbott, Larson, along with county officials, Vernon Lions Club rep.
The Maeser school hosts a community fair at the school building on the 6th Friday in September. Exhibits include Ya Bee products made by pupils and invited community participants. The event invites attendees to sample and vote on products.
