Monument to Jensen Ferry planned for Columbus Day dedication
At a Jensen meeting of the Escalante camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers it was decided to dedicate the Jensen Mabee Ferry monument on October 12. The monument will feature a four by ten by six foot base and a one seventh scale cement replica of the ferry Mabee, the last boat carried away on an ice jam in 1809. The boat's original size was 12 by 12 by 5 feet. The replica will be built by Jens Jensen, son of Lars Jensen, the first ferry builder. The base will include cobbles, and sites near the Jensen bridge are being considered. The bronze plaque, placed by the DUP in Uintah county in 1936, is dedicated to historical purposes by the State DUP Camp at Salt Lake City.
