O Donnell Likely Nominated by Acclamation in Utah Race

The Republican State Senatorial convention in Roosevelt on September 8 is expected to nominate Thos. W. O'Donnell of Vernal by acclamation for the district including Uintah and Duchesne counties. O'Donnell, a former Colorado cavalryman and attorney, has long led Uintah Basin efforts and has served as Uintah County and Vernal city attorney.

Noted Saddle Thief Arrested Last Week

On August 28 Sheriff L Richardson captured J W Cash alias G W Wilson, 50, at Fort Duchesne after leaving Vernal. He tracked a national saddle thief active across Colorado Utah Wyoming Idaho Montana Oregon Nevada California New Mexico Arizona. The suspect had sold saddles and parts to Hal Sturgeon in Roosevelt and fled through multiple states before arrest.

Soldier Memorial Dinner at Vernal Hotel a Big Success

Mrs. R M Gipson and the Vernal Hotel hosted a Soldier Memorial Dinner for the Legion Auxiliary on Tuesday noon to 7 30 PM. Decorations by Mrs Nile Hughes. Gipsons donated most food costs with cakes and salads provided by Auxiliary members. Net proceeds about 140 dollars.

Saddles stolen in one county sold in another. man detained in Vernal

Cash, traveling from Victory highway toward Steamboat Springs and Vernal, halted in Vernal after a Ford with a Texas plate failed. at the Red Front garage Charles Tucker noticed many saddles and alerted Sheriff Richardson, who identified the man from Tucker’s description. The incident followed a planned route to Denver via southern Colorado.

Unusually Large White Fish Reported in Green River

The Green River’s unusually low water reveals very large white fish. A fisherman noted catching a 36 pound white fish, calling it the largest he has seen, and said it was a baby compared to a prior sighting Tuesday.

Elizabeth Hadlock Weeks widow of Edwin George Weeks died Aug 27 at her daughter’s home in Cedarview Utah from age related illness. Born April 1 1844 in Lisbon New York she joined the L D S church and settled in Vernal in 1883 as a hardy pioneer. Survived by sons Archie A Weeks A Weeks Roosevelt and others, 48 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. Funeral at Second Ward chapel with Bishop Wilkins and others officiating. Interment in Vernal cemetery.

Clarence Evans Former Vernalite Killed in Train Accident

Clarence K L Evans, brother in law of Mrs John Bennion, died August 19 1924 in San Bernardino California after being struck by a train while bypassing safety gates near the Santa Fe shops. Survived by widow and four children. Buried in Vernal with pallbearers from the W O W camp. he founded the Vernal W O W lodge.

Seed Experts Visit The Uintah Basin

Seed experts led by J. L. Peppard president of J. G. Peppard Seed Co Kansas City Missouri visited the Uintah Basin on Wednesday to assess the alfalfa seed field and discuss seed pricing and management with local growers.
