The Vernal Gun Club rifle team beat soldiers by seventeen points in a 200 yard match at Ft Duchesne last Friday before heading to Wingate. Soldiers led by sixteen on the 300 yard stage. The contest offered 3200 or $100 per range, ten months’ ride. Capt Scales noted it was the troop’s first defeat in four years.
Minnie Hatch Vernon sued E D Samuels and Edith Samuels for 74 dollars claiming a diamond ring lost by the daughter. Judge Judy Nebeker dismissed the case noting no cause of action and lack of guardian ad litem, with plans for appeal.
The coming term of the district court will be the heaviest in county history with twenty seven to thirty civil cases. Judge John C Booth will preside starting September 9. Six criminal cases are expected, including Johnson’s resist a police arrest in Gines park. The City of Vernal appeals against Art Rich for carrying concealed weapons. Stockholders of the Dry Gulch Irrigation Company in Roosevelt Utah are called to a special meeting on Wednesday September 23 1908 at 10 00 am to vote on bonding and the authority for its board of directors to issue and sell bonds to raise funds for canal system improvements. By order of the Board August 20 1908 President Owen Bennion Secretary J Be Strain.
A local butter sale advertises cooking butter at 12 1-2 cents per pound. The note mentions butter accumulated when the creamery began and before a market was secured for the output.

Other lines advertise pasture rental and a shop corner rental with August timing.

Landholders under Whiterocks Irrigation Company's canal must sign for water and pay back assessments by September 1908 to avoid cash-back penalties. If not complied with, members must settle all back assessments in cash to join the company.
