Herder Pleads Guilty to Ashley Forest Fire Start
Andrew Marting of the Ashley National Forest pleaded guilty at Justice W. S. Henderson's court to accidentally starting a fire on Lake Mountain. Super visor Earl Sanford filed the complaint. Attorney R. H. Ditackett prosecuted. The fire burned about twenty acres and nineteen men fought it. A $25 fine and fifteen days in jail were imposed but the jail sentence was suspended on payment of the fine.

Duchesne announces its two day Labor Stampede September 6 and 7 with the Duchesne County Agricultural Exhibit added this year. A. B Murdock says the program includes parade calf roping horse games and novelty events plus the high school band and Covered Wagon Days entertainers. The indoor agricultural displays and parade move along Main Street while the full two day show is in the city park for easy viewing from the stands.

County seeks extra road funds to boost post rush work
At a Monday board meeting Uniton County agreed to ask Governor Maw for an additional 20 000 from a fund aiding non-defense counties. Vernal City and local groups attended as Frank Demming and Bruno Robins discussed vital county and state roads. Forest ranger Glen Lambert said completing the Dry Fork timber road opens major industry, with a operator ready to install gear to harvest two million cubic feet of timber annually, tapping a vast timber belt. The project hinges on county road completion.

A dry land farm on Diamond Mountain northeast of Vernal is harvesting about 300 acres of grain, likely the largest Eastern Utah yield in 1942. Karl T. Goodrich and Albert M. Goodrich, with Merrill and O'Donald Goodrich aiding, report 60 acres of Volunteer wheat yielding about 100 bushels per acre and 249 acres at least 5 bushels per acre, plus excellent alfalfa and seed crested wheat grass crops aided by spring rains and stored snowmelt.

Jersey Bulls Presented To Basin Dairies In War Gift

Funeral Rites Held for Thomas J Jenkins
Funeral services for Thomas J. Jenkins 61 were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Glines chapel under the direction of the ward bishopric with Conductor MartinFigtcher presiding. Death occurred August 24 at his nephew Ray Jenkins's home after he fell from a load of hay while unloading. Music was provided by a mixed choir with selections including How Gentle God’s Commands Abide With Me and Beautiful Home. A duet In The Garden was sung by Mrs Berry and Mrs. Jones.

Two Vernal Men Enrolled in Naval Training School
Two Vernal men Merrill Reynolds Anderson and Mark Wimmer Stringham, both 26 and 27 respectively, are enrolled at the Naval Training School on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison. They are training as radio specialists for four months to qualify for petty officer ratings, learning international code, radio theory, indortry typing spelling, military drill, first aid, and naval procedure. The trainees stay in converted university dormitories serving as barracks during this program.
