The new CCC camp No 1507 near Vernal opens with 116 men from Priest River Idaho under Captain R W Horne. They will build roads, trails, reservoirs, fences and other public domain improvements across Uintah County with an extensive education and recreation program.

Night Watchman Shoots Robber at Ashton Bros Store

Early Thursday morning night watchman Bob Johnston of Ashton Brothers shot at a burglar fleeing from the store after breaking in through a back window. The robber entered unseen, muffling the break with a sheep lined coat. Johnston confronted him at the back door and fired as the intruder hurried away. The coat was left behind and authorities investigate.

The Uintah county Red Cross safety committee led by H. B. Millecam started a home and farm safety drive with Boy Scouts and schools. Uintah Sheriff Johnson will organize a junior highway patrol at schools. Uintah Basin meeting reviews water and school needs

Governor Blood and state officials met in Vernal to discuss Ashley Valley irrigation, reservoir projects, and road funding. They noted a 65 percent crop this year with potential to reach 100 percent with better water. Officials outlined tax losses from non taxable Indian land, school finances, federal funds, and plans for small reservoirs to aid Uintah Basin agriculture and education.
