Uintah County’s farm land reached 1,898,188 acres. population listed as 11,300. A separate Uintah County project reports reseeding 1200 acres near Farm Creek using Beechcraft planes, though success awaits next year and depends on climate and germination.

New Fence Stiles Aid Hunters and Prevent Damages
Vernal Rod and Gun Club will distribute about 8 fence stiles to Ashley Valley farmers to reduce hunter damage. Dale Jensen says the project partly compensates for pheasant feeding by farmers and is sponsored with Vernal merchants. Stiles cost seven dollars each but are free, adjustable to any fence size. Farmers should contact Dale Jensen.

Two Vernal Girls Escape From Industrial School
Two 18-year-old Vernal girls remained at large after a mass escape from the Utah State Industrial School in Ogden at 4 50 am Monday. Four of the seven escaped were recaptured, one supervisor was injured trying to stop them, and two more escapees suffered broken ankles during the jump from a broken window. A Salt Lake girl is among those sought by Weber County peace officers and surrounding areas.

Final Preparations Meeting Planned For University of Scouting Courses
The University of Scouting committee plans a final 4 30 pm Sunday meeting at the Roosevelt Stake House to finish last minute preparations for the opening session of a six week training program. The course starts at 7 30 pm Friday November 4 at Roosevelt Junior High with 397 Uintah Basin adults registered in Boy Scouts training. A small fee is charged but late registrants may join at the door. Jack F Dexter will head the Cub Scouting department and volunteers are invited to participate.

Vernal Ram Sale officers called the sale fair with prices slightly below last year. A total of 186 rams sold for 10982.50 dollars, averaging 59 dollars each. Suffolk rams led with seven at 78.25, Columbias averaged 40.60 with 44 sold, Rambouillets at 3 dollars and 63 sold. Top price 180 dollars paid by Roy Showalter for a Suffolk stud.

Ray E. Nash, a local attorney, has been appointed probation officer of the Juvenile Court for Uintah and Duchesne counties. The appointment was announced Wednesday by Miss Belle Angus, director of the Department of Public Welfare in Uintah County. Nash will succeed Glen Freeman who returned to school.

Rangely Hunter Shot Through Heart in Hunting Tragedy
Chester F. Corbin 40 of Rangely was killed by a stray bullet while hunting on Red Wash road six miles west of Skull Creek. The shooter, 17 year old William R. Fross of Denver, fired at a deer. his shot struck Corbin as his wife and three children watched in horror. Corbin, an assistant production foreman for Texas Oil, left a sister Claudia Pierce and three Rangely children. An inquest was planned in Craig, Colorado.
