Road Men Complete First Trip Over Rangely Route

Whitlam Welser and officials from Grand Junction and Vernal joined the Colorado State Road Commission engineers to test the new Grand Junction Rangely road. They reported a 141 mile route in good condition with sturdy bridges, a 1200 foot highest pass, and plans to keep it open through winter after further bed settling. Grand Junction merchants funded 30088 dollars for the project and state crews have expanded the road toward the Uintah Basin to create a hard surfaced link from the Colorado Utah line to Grand Junction.

John N. Davie and Long purchased the second prize Rambouillet yearling ram from the Mt Pleasant herd and kept him at home in Vernal Utah. They also bought another ram from the same herd. Davis boosted wool yield through careful breeding selection.

Mrs Clara Burton Reunites With Lost Brother After 64 Years

Mrs Clara Burton 83 returns from East Lake City after reunion with her brother Eli jah Bartlett. They met Sept 16 at her daughter Mrs Joseph McKee’s home in Salt Lake City. Bartlett, an iron worker, manages 300 men in Canton Ohio. he plans to visit Salt Lake City in spring and may move there. The reunion delighted both siblings and revived a long romance in local reports.

Government Will Send Remount Horse to Vernal

County Agent B Peterson secured a government remount horse assignment for Vernal. Through John N Davis, head of the state fair horse department, officials offered a Kentucky thoroughbred saddle horse used by U S cavalry. Funds for Price Myton Road To Be Subscribed

Geologist Charles W. Walker representing the Castle Peak Gilson Ite company visited Vernal with M. E. Jones to arrange Monday plans for building the road from Myton to the Carbon county line on the Price Myton route. Local funds have been secured from Roosevelt Myton and Price business leaders. Carbon county officials are advancing work on the county line to Tice segment.

Cooperative Drive to Ship Hog Shipment Initiated

Uintah farm bureau plans another hog shipment with the drive starting from Vernal on October 30. E. D. Smith leads the effort, coordinating from Watson or Colton. Last Christmas’s shipment to Watson succeeded, while spring efforts failed due to high transport costs eroding profits. Mrs. Harrison thanked the Express force for their thoughtfulness amid a fruit feast.

Turkey Thieves Hit Fort Duchesne and Surrounding Areas

The Fort Duchesne raid tops a string of thefts as F. O. Lundberg's 100 turkeys are taken, while Miss Naylor in Gusher reports nearly all her turkeys stolen and about half her chickens seized. Other thefts occur in Bennett area but many would-be thieves are deterred.

Engineer Heads to Flaming Gorge Survey

U S Engineer Ralf R Woolley, hydraulic engineer with the United States geological survey, leaves Salt Lake Monday for a preliminary survey of the Flaming Gorge site. He will supervise work by Utah Power and Light under an August 15 preliminary permit and expects a brief return before a two month Washington trip to confer with the federal power commission and other survey officers.

Forest Ranger Reports On Movement of Deer

Forest Ranger Harry Van Tassel at Trout Creek station reports about one foot of snow on the ground and deer moving to lower levels. Tracks point eastward as deer spread, making hunting harder to trace. He notes grouse and hens have moved down early, suggesting good hunting prospects with conservation.

Captain Byron Thomas of Vernal Gun and Rifle club vows to bring back a five point buck. L. H. Allan presides, with Henry Millessin secretary, Buger visor Charles DeMeisy, Ranger Harry VanTassel, Mayor Walter Barnes, William VanTassel, Charles F.
