Uintah County Republicans Rally for War Effort and Local Races

The Uintah county Republican convention at the Courthouse endorsed the party platform from Lake City, nominated candidates for sheriff and other offices, urged strong war measures and a four year county legislative term, and backed a road tax local control, juvenile judge, and prohibition amendments while praising Red Cross efforts and unity. Notable nominees included Lafe Richardson for sheriff, Mabel Hacking for recorder, Wallace Calder as county attorney, and Anton Strebel for county chairman.

Aged Man Declared Not Insane in Local Hearing

Charles Coulard, held in county jail for sanity exam, was released after physicians' hearing. He claimed family sought his property via seizure under epilepsy fears, while neighbors alleged danger with a large knife. Authorities will pursue further action only if new complaints arise.

Stephen J Miller Dies in Salt Lake City

Stephen J Miller aged 23 died in a Salt Lake hospital Monday evening while en route from Montana to Vernal. Born in Berlin Germany he came to the United States in infancy and worked as a plasterer with A A Weeks & Son. He is survived by his wife Marie Erickson Miller and several brothers. The body arrived in Vernal Friday and funeral plans are expected to be announced locally.
