Poor Duck Shoot Except Leota Lake Highlights Local Hunted Sources
Duck hunting in the Vernal area is poor except at Leota Lake where heavy waterfowl have been seen. Two men were injured in a two car collision two miles west of Vernal on Highway 40, with $1800 in damages. Edwin A Lynch, 31, of Aspen, collided with Ro bert Dean Holifield, 21, of Vernal. Lynch received a chest injury, Holifield knee injuries. Lynch cited for improper turn. Waterfowl opening Oct 15 at 6 00 am through Nov 23 with staggered first week hours.

New District Judge Takes Office Oath In Provo Court
Maurice Harding was sworn in as the new Fourth District Court judge in Provo following the death of William Stanley Dunford. Appointed by Gov. J. Bracken Lee for a term ending 1958, Harding was welcomed by Judge Joseph E. Nelson with praise from peers including Judge LeRoy Tuckett and attorneys George Balle and Jackson Howard. Harding, a former Provo mayor and city official, has long served in Utah legal circles and state bar leadership. Peterson age 94 the oldest male resident of Ashley Valley were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Jensen Ward chapel He died Saturday at his son's home in Vernal Born March 1 1861 in Copenhagen Denmark he came to the United States at age ten and lived in Jensen most of his life He was married to Sarah Ellen Murray who preceded him in death Survivors include two sons Ivan and Marvin Peterson 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren Burial was in Jensen Cemetery He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints Thursday to return to California home.

Pipeline plan announced for Bonaiza gilsouite to Minita Colo
A survey of a proposed 80 mile pipeline from Bonanza mines to a Minita Colorado coking plant was completed. Superintendent John Baker of the American Gilsouite company said the multinillion dollar project includes high pressure hydraulic mining, an eight inch line to Fruita, and suspension transport of crushed gilsonite. The program aims to boost output from 200 to 800 1000 tons daily within 18 months, with reserves expected to cover over fifty years.

Granary Fire East of Vernal From Dropped Match
A lighted match dropped in a trash pile caused a fire that destroyed a granary at 1090 P.M. on the Ken Smuin property five miles east of Vernal. Total loss was about 1000 dollars. Firemen stayed on scene until 1:30 A.M. to shield haystacks and homes from wind sparks. A family had gone to the wooden granary in search of a gasoline lamp during a power outage.

Pipeline Workers Advance as Moab Section Near Vernal

Car Demolished In Herd of Horses Crash Near Jen sen
A late model car collided with a herd of horses on Highway 40 near the Dinosaur Service Station in Jen sen at 6:14 PM Monday. The car was wrecked and two horses were injured and had to be shot. The horses were unclaimed. Driver was Melvin F. Collier, 39, of Vernal.
