Livestock Auction Opens To Big Crowd In Vernal Debut
The Vernal Livestock Auction Co opened with about 300 in attendance and gross sales of 17000. Butrett E Coon credited local farmers and laborers for building the new barn. About 400 lambs 144 cattle and 35 hogs sold with lambs 14.40 to 27.20 per 160, feeder steers up to 17.50 and slaughter heifers up to 17.60. A weiner pig fundraiser attracted multiple bids for Jensen ward chapel. Attendees and donors included Uintah Packing Co Commercial Hotel Zane Christensen and others, Pete Wall final buyer.

Truck Collision Near Vernal Hurts Two Men and Kills Sheep
A highway crash 23 miles west of Vernal injured two men and killed numerous sheep. Ferron Wilkins 27 swerved to avoid a left turning car driven by Homer Haynes 85, sending the truck and trailer into a ditch and overturning. Haynes suffered minor injuries and pneumonia later, while Wilkins and the sheep owner Louis D. Roberts faced losses. The truck carried about 250 sheep en route to wintering grounds Pleasant Valley Duchesna. The incident blocked Highway 40 for 45 minutes.

Funeral Service For Lorin Atwood Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Lorin L Atwood 51 longtime Vernal resident were held Wednesday at 2 p m in Vernal First Ward chapel. He died Saturday night at 6 30 p m of a heart ailment. Born in Vernal November 26 1903 he was a son of Leopard and Rachel Hunting Atwood and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Survivors include his widow Elsie Long Atwood a daughter Evelyn Sheffer Vernal three brothers Evan Atwood Vernal Lawrence Atwood Clearfield and Nephi Atwood Oxden and a sister Wanda Hardinger Salt Lake City. Burial was in Vernal Memorial Park.
