Discovery Held Elk Springs Oil Field Opens New Pool

The Continental Oil company struck a new field 63 miles east of Vernal at Elk Springs Colorado with Margaret V Smith No 1 producing 168 barrels daily on day one. The well lies 30 miles north and east of Randy and about 28 miles east of sia, spudded in August, drilled by Fred Manning company, and shows strong gas pressure with a likely major field as deeper testing proceeds into Weber sands. Other Uintah Basin wildcat efforts include Carter Oil Davis No 3 near Vernal and Bullock Pioneer No 3 near Gusher, both yielding small shows and favorable early indications. The Elk Springs site sits largely on federal land, with Standolind holding a field stake, and geologists note Rangely-type formations with surface lancos shale and Lewis ark formations. Will Aiail 83 Dies. Vernal Pioneer Ranch Stockman

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Vernal First Ward chapel for Will Aiail 83 who died Monday at Uintah Basin Hospital after six months of illness. A pioneer stockman, he came to Vernal with his parents Rob Haddrick and Anne Dent, settled east of Vernal, and worked in the mining and ranching sectors. He leaves two brothers, Bert Hall of Roosevelt and Hall Hall of Leeton.
