West Side Seeks Increased Road Funds

A large group from west side precincts met in Lapoint to press county officials for higher road funding and return of supervision to Commissioner Ray Labrum. Delegates including C B Bartlett were instructed to secure about 30000 dollars based on approved roads, roughly 50 dollars per mile, with strings attached.

Government Allots 50 000 To Complete Moon Lake Canal

The federal government via the Bureau of Reclamation has allotted 5000 for finishing the Yellowstone feeder canal to move irrigation water from Moon Lake reservoir to the Uintah riverside. Moon Lake Water Users Association members in Roosevelt were informed the project will resume immediately to finish this fall. Construction includes CCC camp work and private contracting for the remaining portions, extending about 16 miles from Yellowstone river to Monarch area, with a short extension to Black Hawk canal. The project aims to restore drought damaged Monarch Montwell Neola areas.

Roosevelt Receives $8000 Supplemental Water Project Approval

Roosevelt’s WPA backed plan to modernize the city water system was approved by President Roosevelt and returned to the city council. The project, about 38000, includes replacing wooden pipes with 6000 feet of 2 inch galvanized line and 600 feet of 10 inch cast iron pipe, adding 600 feet of 6 inch pipe, fencing the new reservoir, and aims to begin this week during the WPA period.

Kingsbury Congregational Church of Vernal held its 38th annual meeting of the parish with large attendance after a dinner. Rev Jas M Hallwood read his last report. numerous officers and committee reports followed and an ensuing year slate was elected. City Council to Install Additional Fire Hydrants

City leaders announced plans to install new fire hydrants at three locations in the city and ordered firefighting gear including helmets and wrenches. A proposed contract with water users to protect water service was introduced by W. H. Henderson with a possible vote after year's end. A mass meeting to name a city ticket was scheduled for Friday October 13, and city officials’ terms expire January 1 except Councilman Charles Hatch.

Storm Halts Buck Pasture Reservoir Work After Snow

A Tuesday night storm dropped eight inches of snow in the mountains and stopped work on the Buck Pasture reservoir. Only about forty percent of recent work could be done amid rains, delaying completion of the spillway, earthwork, and canal. The project may store about 6500 acre feet of water with the outlet finished, and engineer Leon P Christensen cites it as one of the state’s best small reservoirs.

Utah Duck Hunting Season Set From Oct 22 to Dec 5

Utah issues a season proclamation from October 22 through December 5 with shooting hours 7 am to 4 pm daily. The daily bag limit is ten ducks with limits on species and a total possession cap of twenty.
