Rites Held for Vernal Doctor in Salt Lake Sunday

Funeral services for Dr. Homer B. Richy were held at the Larkety Funeral Home Salt Lake City at 2:00 p m Sunday Elder George Albert smith spoke and Fort Douglas fired a salute Interment was in Wasatch Lawn Cemetery beside his parents Richy born August 15 1836 in Ogden son of Ben E Rich and Diane Farr Rich a Chicago Medical College graduate he moved to Vernal 25 years ago and became a leading physician He helped found the Ashley Valley Scouts Doughboy Monument and state Legion and Auxiliary groups Survived by wife Ethel daughter Pereppa and four brothers and two sisters

Cattle Stealing Case Dismissed In District Court

In district court Judge Martin B M Larson dismissed the cattle larceny case against Jessie Morris after two hung juries. Prosecutors joined, and Henderson and Jacobsen received fines and probation for failure to provide. Admin letters were granted in the Adams and Richardson estates, with bond adjustments on Uintah Power and Light bonds and other civil actions ongoing. A divorce decree granted Mary M. Schofield and restoration of her maiden name.

Young Republicans Club Installs County Organization at Imperial Hall

About 350 members of Utotah County’s Young Republicans attended an enthusiastic Monday night meeting at Imperial Hall where a complete county organization was installed. George C. Davis was named chairman with Martha B. Karren as first vice chair, Charles R. Henderson as second vice chair, Laurel Mattsson as third vice chair, and Ray E. Nash as secretary. The group planned precinct outreach and community meetings. All Republican candidates for county and district offices were present. Governor candidate Ray E. Dillman was expected but unable to attend due to an extended Southern state swing. A dance followed official business and was enjoyed by the crowd.

County Agent reports at State Fair and planning farmer groups

Last weekend the County Agent helped at the State Fair with 4-H leaders in contests. Over 2,200 4-H club members exhibited, including Uintah county clubs. A Uintah demonstration team of Miss LaDeen Hall and Miss General Ashby, chaperoned by Miss Mary Helen Hucking, earned praise but did not place.

Asphalt Paving Totals 10 Miles In Vernal City

Vernal citizens tout extensive asphalt work within city limits. Projects include sidewalks and curb to curb paving along US 40 and near Uintah high school. State plans may extend US 49 to Myton and US 40 further, with WPA supervision and local plant support. Clare Ashton reports son Clare of Roosevelt recovering after Mayo Clinic operation.

Vernal Attorney Nominated State Senator Monday

Hugh W. Colton was the unanimous Republican choice for State Senator from Uintah and Duchesne counties at Roosevelt on Monday. Delegates from Uintah included W. A. Banks Martin W. Curtis and others. Curtis chaired with Henderson as secretary who was elected district chairman for two years. Democratic nominee G. V. Billings of Duchesne was chosen at Roosevelt on Saturday for the same district.

The Republican sound wagon stopped in Vernal Friday morning on its state tour. County Chairman Martin Curtis introduced several Republican ticket candidates who spoke during a short program.

First Aid Course Dates Proposed At Vernal

Edwitt H. Carroll of the American Red Cross relays Utah accident toll for 1935 as 462 deaths, up 11.6 percent from 1934, and notes strong interest in a Vernal first aid course set for November 2 to 7 ahead of Armistice Day observances. About 200 registrations expected, with 63 qualified for the standard instruction last year and many likely to enroll for advanced work.

Federal Aid to Include Straw berry in System

A request seeks adding about 240 miles of Utah highways to the federal aid system under an amendment to the highway act. B J Finch, district engineer, said the proposal would raise federal aid mileage by 1 percent once 90 percent is reached. The addition awaits Washington review after district checks. Potential inclusions include Heber Fruitland on US 40 and Logen Collinston links, with Weber Fruitland in Wasatch and Duchesne counties discussed.

Vernal Cemetery Renamed as City Memorial Park

The Vernal Cemetery, formerly known as the Flutlinger Palmner and Bartlett cemeteries, will be renamed Vernal City Memorial Park. Located on a mesa south of the city, the park is undergoing major beautification including a new water system, fencing, roads, and grass planting. Per Mayor Cooper, removal of old fences and ongoing lot care by owners will greatly improve appearances.

Mrs Eva Ashton served as a page to the national auxiliary president at the convention in Claye wind. She also received the McRae trophy for Utah’s largest auxiliary membership, marking Utah’s second straight year with top state status. The Utah department president accepted a Fostoria glass luncheon set at the state dinner as the next convention site was named New York City will host next year.

Vernal Lions Visit Buck Pasture Reservoir Project

A group of Lions visited the Buck Pasture reservoir site on Friday afternoon. They inspected the dam area and a large portion of the canal, praising the project as a remedy for the valley water shortage. Attendees included President Glen Miller and members H. B. Calder L P. Excursionists Begin Green River Voyage From Flaming Gorge

A party led by Vernal rivermen starts a ten day journey down the Green River from Flaming Gorge to Jensen. Dr. Langley, Dr. Briesen, and Max Hebgen join as observers and film makers. They camped at Flaming Gorge and plan to reach the Green River mouth by October 5 with cameras ready for dramatic canyon views.

Machinery to Build Dam Is At Long Park

The Montez Creek reservoir machinery moved to Long Park north of Vernal to finish the project. With 1000 square yards of earth moved daily, the 80 horsepower tractor and two carry-alls will complete the work in about 20 days for winter and spring storage. Futon Jarman leads the crew with Richard Dye and Niles Haslem assisting, and the tri stake equipment will aid Uintah Tashin water storage projects as a non profit venture.

Compressed Air Plant and Bulldozer to Dinosaur Site

David H. Madsen and F. Rogers of Yellowstone inspected Dinosaur Monument progress and lands for park enlargement. They from Washington, D. C., noted quarry progress and suggested installing compressed air plant and bulldozer equipment with Dr. Boyle guiding the tour.
