Tragic influenza claims Lula Hamilton in Vernal hometown

Lula Fern Hamilton, a Mill Creek born and Vernaisha co op worker, dies after a prolonged influenza battle. Survived by ten brothers and seven sisters, including James in California and George in Kentucky, with funeral held at Vernal Cemetery attended by family and friends.

Uintah County drives total over fund goal through local committees

Loyal efficient service by Uintah County chairmen backs a county drive that surpassed its allotment with $193 534 87 raised. Leaders like Wm Witbeck and Wong Sing spearheaded large gifts, while many donors contributed near or above $2000. The drive funds will aid Armenian and Russian relief with some remaining to state treasury.

Army trucks eyed to speed Uintah Basin mail

The Post Office plans to replace current mail service with Packard motor trucks run by discharged soldiers on a fixed schedule. Seven trucks and four drivers would cover an 116 mile star route between Hesper and Vernal Utah, cutting costs from 78000 to about half.

Official Vote Shows Ben Colton Defeated By 205 Votes

The state election board canvassed Utah east of Salt Lake City on election day. In the Twelfth Senatorial district W. D. Lamph, Democrat, beat Don B. Colton, Republican, by 205 votes with county totals listed. Other results include judges, congress, amendments, and local notices.

George Peters in France Dies of Influenza Plague

A telegram announces that George Peters, 31, of Vernal Utah, died in France from influenza pneumonia after serving in Company G of the 145th Infantry. He left Vernal for Camp Lewis June 26, then Camp Kearney, California, before going overseas. George was loved for his broad-mindedness and kindness to family and neighbors. He leaves seven sisters and one brother.
