County Officials Return From Tax Meeting

State officials returned from Salt Lake City after three days at Governor Mabey's tax convention. All counties were represented, with numerous commissioners and treasurers attending to discuss reducing taxes and standardizing assessments. Mabey urged living within means and spending less, urging study of current year needs and possible legislative remedies.

McClure hunter to visit relatives after bear catch

C W McClure, 72, who recently caught four bears on Taylor Mountain, plans a late week trip to Marshaltown Iowa to visit his daughter. He has spent eight years in the country and this summer herded for Johnny Davis. He trapped the bears on Taylor Mountain and has homesteaded near Colorado Park and a desert claim at Moffat, near wells under drill. On the return trip he will stop at Steamboat Springs Colorado and Emporia Kansas to dispose of property.

Fortieth Grandchild Born Saturday Night

Patriarch Harmon Sowards and wife celebrate the fortieth grandchild born Sunday night November 20 to their daughter Mrs Lewis Behrman. Mr Behrman is visiting at her parents home. There are 38 living grandchildren. Mrs Sowards is 60 years old on September 10.

Well Known Rock Springs Banker Dies

J P Boyer cashier of the First National Bank of Rock Springs Wyoming died of influenza and pneumonia on November 1 buried November 16. He counted many friends in Vernal and Uintah county and supported development of what is now Daggett county. The people of that region have lost a staunch friend.

County commissioner Owen Bunion of Duchesne county traveled from Roosevelt to conduct legal business Tuesday and Wednesday. Bennion recently discussed matters with officials, indicating ongoing negotiations and local governance concerns.

Three Stills Unearthed In Ashley Valley

Federal prohibition agents along with local officers unearthed three illegal stills in Ashley Valley within two days. In Vernal area investigations led to captures of John Scott, Jerry Hatch, and Lincoln Williams as officials found mash, finished liquor, and complete outfits. Scott and Hatch pled guilty to manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquor and were fined 289 dollars or six months. Williams awaits federal trial. Justice Woolley warned no leniency for liquor offenses.

Mother of E H Belcher Injured in Salt Lake Fall

Assistant cashier E H Belcher of Uintah State Bank reports his elderly mother Mrs Belcher aged 86 next February fell at her daughter Elizabeth Bartholomew's Salt Lake City home. She broke her leg after slipping on a rug and twisting a pane. at last word she rested as well as could be expected.

Proceeds fund early tuberculosis care, with Vernal’s traveling clinic finding new cases and urging buy now to help loved ones.

The Vernal Commercial club met with business men Monday and Tuesday to push federal aid for surfacing the Victory Highway in Utah. Four million one hundred and fifty thousand dollars was paid the Utah and Intermountain beet growers last week. Nearly $3,000,000 was distributed in Utah to growers. The money, lent through the Wire Inanena corporation via the federal reserve bank and the Sugar Beet Finance Corporation of Salt Lake, will help farmers meet obligations and boost business. The sugar factories are expected to distribute $15,000,000 this year, aiding labor, beets, and supplies.
