Hunting Party Scores In Deer Kill On Diamond Mountain

A hunting party reports a 237 pound 11 point buck wounded on Diamond mountain then dragged to Brush creek. The group of 10 including Lloyd Richards and Lou Cheney bagged their deer despite deep snow and decoyed tracks. Second largest weighed 226 pounds. Karl Collee won the season rifle contest.

Vernal hunter Bob Staley wins fourth prize in Jonas Brothers contest

Vernal hunter Bob Staley won fourth prize in a hunting contest sponsored by Jonas Brothers of Denver. He bagged a 32 point buck near Ran gely in the Douglas creek area on Oct. 29 and will receive an outboard motor. The first prize Buick went to another hunter with a 46 inch spread and 38 points. Staley, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Staley, brings a 400 pound black bear from Colorado each year and plans to mount his 32 pointer.

Lafe Richardson Dies at 69 After Uintah Service

Lafe Richardson 69 longtime Uintah public servant died Monday night in Uintah County hospital from complications after an operation. He served as Vernal water superintendent and sheriff of Uintah County from 1918 to 1926, later becoming city marshal until 1940. He is survived by his wife and eight children. The Utah Cooperative Association tour of its Uintah Refinery drew delegates from across the state, with a refinery tour and luncheon highlighting ownership and democratic control for cooperators.

Scouters Open Fund Drive for 2600 in Uintah Basin

The Uintah section of the Boy Scouts of America plans a one day drive on November 21 to raise 2600 dollars for full time executive services. Area includes Uintah Duchesne Roosevelt and Moon Lake stakes. District leaders urge support to enhance summer camps and scouting activities.

Uintah County 4-H Achievement Day Honors

About 125 club leaders parents and 4-H members gathered at the Utah Field House of Natural History on Saturday November 12 for Uintah County 4-H Achievement Day exercises. Farm Home Loans Offered In Uintah County Training Meeting

The Farmers Home Administration conducts an all day session at the Utah Field House of Natural History led by Clark Allred to train staff for Duchesne Uintah and Daggett counties. Loans, up to 33 years at four percent, aid rural homeowners unable to secure bank loans with irregular income. Congress has appropriated 27 million for the program this year.

Man Hurt In Tanker Welding Blast

George Stewart, 20, of Jensen, was injured Tuesday night when a welding torch ignited drilling mud inside a tanker owned by Nelson Brothers of Craig Colorado. He was rushed to Uintah County hospital with head and facial lacerations and will stay about three days. The tanker was nearly demolished after the explosion.

Jaycees Propose Vernal Christmas Lighting Plan

Chairman Jack Allrey of the Vernal Junior Chamber of Commerce announces plans to light Vernal with Christmas lights starting December 10. The Jaycees will reuse last year’s plan but fund new wiring and will light two blocks of Main Street, hoping for a turnout like the previous year.
