New Vernal Country Club Rises With 70000 Budget

Construction on Vernal's new Country Club proceeds with main contract granted to Grant Jansen Construction Co. of Altamont and all subcontracts to local firms. Completion aimed for January 1, with inside work continuing through winter. Golf course progresses with four greens and fairways done and sprinkling systems. nine greens planned. Total investment near 200000 with clubhouse costs included.

Tentative Plans Lined Up for Xmas Activities

The Vernal Chamber of Commerce retail merchants committee approved festive plans for Christmas. Santa Claus is slated to arrive at the Vernal airport on Saturday December 1. Free movie screenings are planned on December 3 and 15 with two showings each day at 10 am and 2 pm. Tickets will be sold later at Vernal stores for children under 12. The committee approved a $350 contribution to Vernal Jr. Chamber to help with marshalling and candy. Lynne King chairs the committee.

Uintah Stake LDS Conference Set for Nov 24 25

Stake President Frank Walker announced Uintah Stake will hold a two day LDS conference Saturday and Sunday November 24 and 25 with visiting speaker Arthur aycock Salt Lake City Divisional Missionary Coordinator for eastern Utah. A Saturday night meeting and stake center sessions are planned along with priesthood leadership and clerks meetings and a special missionary gathering in the evening.

Quarry Road project eyed by Chamber amid plan to Route

The Vernal Chamber discusses building Quarry Road from Visitors Center to Blue Mountain, with A Clack Stratton noting construction may not start until 1965 after rights of way are secured. Rights of way involve Douglas Chew ranch and Mr Chow, who has agreed to release them. Passenger cars reach Vernal from Dutch John via Little Hole as river runs low. Stake religious meetings scheduled with leaders and reports

Truck Convoy Delivers Big Transformers to Vernal Substation

A heavy truck convoy arrives in Vernal around 10 am with two large transformers for Moon Lake Electric’s Vernal substation. The units connect to the Upper Colorado River Storage Project to reduce 138,000 volts to usable levels for Uintah Basin distribution. One transformer and a 63,000-volt oil circuit breaker will be unloaded, with a second day move planned to Rangely, Colorado.

Funeral for Mrs Eve Ashton in Vernal Saturday

Mrs Eve Ashton 63 dies at home on West 4th South Vernal. Funeral services set for Saturday at 1 p m at the stake center with Bishop Ben W Lindsay of Vernal 2nd Ward presiding. Burial in Vernal City Memorial Park. Visitation at Vernal Mortuary Friday evening and Saturday morning. Ashton a nationally known civic and educational leader who spoke nationwide and led the American Legion Auxiliary since 1933.

Vernal 1962 permits top $1 million

Vernal City issued building permits totaling 1,202,475 for 1962 through October’s end. Included were 72 new homes and 39 remodeling projects plus seven new commercial buildings. The peak month was April with 351,000 in permits. October saw 14 new homes and four remodeling jobs totaling 202,000.

Schools to Schedule C D Attack Drill in Uintah District

Absenteeism looms as a major issue at Ashley Valley Junior High with 4,825 total absences for the first nine weeks. Uintah School District plans its first full scale Civil Defense exercise in November, with students sent home or kept at school under alert or attack conditions. District funds lost from absences exceed 1400 dollars, and the district foresees a need for coordinated emergency drills amid ongoing international tensions.
