James W. Findlay 71, Ashby Valley rancher, died at his home near Vernal after a blood infection from a thumb wound. He married Ida Woolley in 1909 and lived in Craig and Ashley Valley resident since 1912. His widow and five grandchildren survive along with six brothers and several other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Vernal Second Ward Chapel with Bishop John Male presiding.

Dan Loran Hatch born Oct 9 1909 in Vernal was laid to rest after a large Maeser chapel funeral directed by Bishop Lester Bingham. Elders quorum stood with the procession to Maeser cemetery as friends and relatives paid tribute to his missionary work and devoted life.

Survived by husband five sons and two daughters, including Tennyson Thelma Clayton Evan Earl Quentin Cleons, her father in Honolulu, one sister Mignonetti seven brothers, all of Honolulu. Funeral is at 2:30 pm with Gitnes ward bishop directing.

J W Knight and C Clarence Neslen of the state tax commission met Uintah County and Vernal City officials at the courthouse to discuss delinquent taxes and the redemption law. The 1935 legislature set new terms allowing redemption through January 1 1938 for several years with reduced interest and waiving prior penalties, provided payment is made by January 1 1936.

Vernal Boy Receives Carnegie Medal for Heroic Rescue
Ass Johnston son of Mr and Mrs Robert Johnston is the first Vernal boy awarded a Carnegie Fund medal for heroism. Near Jensen, Ezra Merkley fell eight feet into Green River during a rescue by Asa and his brother. Asa swam 35 feet to Ezra and, after a struggle, pushed Ezra to shallow water. The medal honors his bravery and his family notes the $500 prize will aid his education after high school.
