War veterans honored in Uintah High School program

A large audience attended an Armistice Day program at Uintah High School with Lt Joe Burn urging unity of all citizens in national service. The event featured selections by the Uinta Miph band directed by Prof J Omanson, flag ceremonies, pledges led by Mrs Manwaring, and a tribute to those serving in defense. An overture by the band preceded a time of silence and a prayer by Chaplain Blaine Lee, with Milburn performing a tenor piece amid audience applause. Continued on Page fives.

Rasmussen promoted to lieutenant at Fort Leonard Wood

Garth Rasmussen son of Mr and Mrs Willard Rasmussen of Naples has been promoted to second lieutenant and is stationed at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri He attended the University of Utah and BYU and joined the National Guard in spring 19 and rose through ranks to staff sergeant He trained at Fort Belvoir Virginia in May and graduated in September En route he stopped in Salt Lake City where he was met by his mother two sisters Eden and Mary and brother Hart

Powell Infant Buried At Maeser Saturday

The Powell infant, died November 6, was buried at Maeser on Saturday with services led by Bishop Lester Bingham. The funeral featured violin solo by Gerald Caldwell, prayers by Franklin Alplanar, short talks by Mark M Hall and Rev James W Hallcod, and a final interment at Fairview Cemetery. Survived by parents, two sisters Donna and Eva Mae Powell, and grandparents Mr and Mrs Whileam Ackhurst of Maeser and Mrs Eden Powell of Vernal.

Gas Rationing Registration Delayed To December First

Registration for gasoline rationing is postponed from this week to December 1. A state officer cited printing delays in the ration book and urged districts to proceed with issuing books. Motorists continue to request application forms from service stations and dealers. applicants must list all five tires and pledge to drive no faster than 35 miles per hour and to sell extra tires to the government.

Uintah County Salvage Head Served in War I

Blaine Lee Uintah County Salvage Head served in World War I. He spent five months in France and was born in Penquitch. Educated at Branch Agricultural College Cedar City Murdock Academy Beaver University of Utah and BYU. He held many local posts including post commander Witbeck Post 11 and served in Uintah County Teachers Association. Married Florence Horrocks in 1926 with five children.

Verbal Slant on Draft Case at Uintah Ouray Reservation

A Uintah Ouray district jury recently found Desar Oberhansley of Foosevelt guilty of failing to appear for induction after a draft board order. The trial, held in Salt Lake City, also indicted an unnamed co-defendant for introducing quorum on the Uintah Ouray reservation.

Uintah Stake Conference at Vernal drew largely attended sessions with Thomas E McKay and Hyrum B Calder as speakers.
