Conference Held Here Sat Sunday Ward Chapel Opening

The Vernal First ward chapel hosted a weekend LDS gathering with four sessions the next day. Attendees included Rufus K Hardy and Sterling H Nelson from church authorities. A capacity male priesthood turnout heard a program, with singing and prayers, and local members reported substantial welfare contributions and crop harvests supporting church projects.

Court Reporter Adelbert Bigler Killed in Santaquin Crash

Adelbert Bieler 51 of Provo died in a storm slicked highway wreck at Santaquin. The court stenographer and Sharan Stake official was driving a buggy ahead of a truck driven by a LaSalle driver from Salt Lake City. Christine Bieler, 13, and Mrs Pri… different injuries reported. Local officials described wet pavement and freezing rain as factors. He served as a court reporter for the Fourth District and was active in civic and church circles. He leaves a wife and three children, plus several siblings.

William James Farr 83 died at home in Lapoint Monday morning after a long life at sea. He sailed the Miying Cloud clipper, began at sixteen, circled the globe twice, and later worked a San Francisco steamboat route between Barrramété and Vallejo. Senators Resume Phase of Phosphates Investigation

Idaho Senator Pope announced the second phase of the special congressional committee on development and conservation of phosphates with hearings set for November 21 in Broxville and November 28 in Lakeland. Solo River Runner Reaches Jensen In Rubber Craft

Young Stewart Gardiner a 23 year old from Salt Lake City completed a six day river run from Lahore Canyon through Split Mountain Canyon to Green River in a lightweight kayak. He patched punctures, portaged one rapid, and found the river dangerously low four to five inches in places. Gardiner praised the scenery and noted filming by Lee Kay and the State Fish and Game department to share the trip with others unable to make the journey.

Buzz Holmstrom Seeks New Colorado River Solo Trip Plans

Buzz Holmstrom and colleagues Amos Burg and Wills Johnson filmed in Boulder Movie crew on the ninth expedition. They found wreckage of Jack Aldredge’s boat above Bright Angel while Aldredge has been missing in Green River Utah for two months. Holmstrom plans a southward run toward California but indicated indecision.

Vernal Scout Building To Be Finished Soon

The Vernal Scout Building project advances toward completion with the Beont Home on West First South Street heating temporarily by gas and electric hookups. Scouters report funds are being raised to cover heating, lighting, paint, and furnishings. A final inspection and public possessions are planned once funding suffices.
